Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

We couldn’t be happier with our total roof replacement by Red Ladder Roofing! Ricky Bell and his crew were patient (answered many questions), professional, and have provided us with a quality roof that should last a long time. We highly recommend Red Ladder Roofing as a trustworthy roofing contractor.

Terry Dickson· 11 months ago

We had Ricky and his team come out and do a terra-cotta tile roof repair and replacement as needed for wind damage, and some previous hail damage. He flew a drone around, and took some great aerial pictures. And gave us a great idea of the location, and the number of tiles that needed to be redone. He also had a highly trained and experienced repair crew, that has specific knowledge of doing this type of work on a delicate tile roof. The job went seamlessly. The crew was excellent, cleaned up, and got it done I was very happy with this whole experience. Thank you so much Ricky and Red ladder roofing

From start to finish, Ricky Bell and his team impressed me with their speed, attention to detail, and commitment to quality workmanship. They handled everything needed for our full roof replacement quickly without cutting corners, and the final result is flawless. It’s clear they take pride in what they do. Being a family-owned and operated business with such a strong track record shows in every part of the experience—professional, honest, and incredibly reliable. I couldn’t recommend Red Ladder Roofing more highly!

Frequently asked

Is Red Ladder Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas does not issue a state roofing licence, so no roofing company in Texas can hold one. Red Ladder states it is fully insured, and it carries voluntary industry credentials instead: RCAT and NTRCA membership, BBB accreditation, and manufacturer certifications from GAF, CertainTeed and Owens Corning.
What does RCAT Member mean, and is it the same as RCAT Licensed?
No, they are two different things. Red Ladder is listed as an RCAT Member, meaning the company pays dues and participates in the association. RCAT separately awards a Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) that is earned through testing and continuing education. Membership alone does not confer it.
Denton County is in Hail Alley. Should I install Class 4 impact resistant shingles?
It is worth pricing. Class 4 shingles pass the UL 2218 steel ball test without cracking, which matters in North Texas where hail is the most common cause of roof loss. Many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for a Class 4 roof, so ask your carrier what the discount is before deciding.
How do I tell real hail damage from normal wear?
Hail bruising shows as random soft spots with granule loss and a dark exposed mat, usually with matching dents on soft metals such as gutters, downspouts and vents. Wear looks uniform across the whole slope. A proper inspection uses chalked test squares on each elevation, not a look from the ground.
How long do I have to file a hail claim in Texas?
Texas policies require prompt notice of loss, and Texas law generally limits how long you have to sue on a claim. Practically, file as soon as you have a dated storm event and an inspection. Waiting through several storm seasons makes it much harder to prove which storm caused the damage.
Do I need a permit for a reroof in Denton?
Texas has no statewide building code office, so permitting and inspection are set city by city. Denton, Flower Mound, Frisco and Dallas each have their own rules and fees. Ask the contractor to confirm in writing that it pulls the permit in its own name and schedules the inspection.
What is the difference between the manufacturer warranty and the labour warranty?
The manufacturer warranty covers defects in the shingle itself and its length depends on the product and the installer's certification level. The labour or workmanship warranty covers the installation. Red Ladder advertises a five year labour warranty on most jobs. Both should be in writing.
Can a roofer negotiate my insurance claim for me?
Not in Texas unless separately licensed as a public adjuster. A roofer can inspect, document damage with photos and measurements, meet the adjuster on site and supply a written scope, but negotiating the settlement on your behalf for a fee is adjusting. Be wary of any contractor who promises to handle the whole claim.
Is metal a sensible choice in North Texas?
It can be. Standing seam metal handles wind well and lasts far longer than asphalt, though large hail can dent panels without causing a leak, which some homeowners find cosmetically unacceptable. Ask whether your policy excludes cosmetic damage on metal before committing. Red Ladder installs metal roofing.
What should I ask before signing anything?
Ask for the certificate of insurance direct from the agent, the manufacturer certification level for the exact shingle line quoted, the labour warranty term in writing, who pulls the permit, whether the price is fixed or contingent on the insurance settlement, and a written scope listing decking, underlayment, flashing and ventilation, not just shingles.
