About

Port Enterprises, Ltd., trading as Port Roofing, is a commercial roofing and sheet metal contractor with its head office at 11303 Conroy Lane in Manchaca, Travis County, just south of Austin. The company's own history page traces the business to a small family operation founded in Port Lavaca in 1963 by Gene Barnett, a shift from residential to commercial work in the 1980s, expansion into Austin in 1984, and growth in the K-12 and higher education markets from 2000 onward. It was incorporated as Port Enterprises, Inc. in 1984 and became a limited partnership in 2000. In 2025 the company states it became part of Rampart, a national exterior services platform backed by Huron Capital. The work is commercial rather than residential. Published services include commercial roof repair and re-roofing, new construction roofing systems, commercial sheet metal roofing and in-house sheet metal fabrication, single ply systems, modified bitumen systems, specialty roof coatings, prime contractor services, preventative maintenance programmes, scheduled inspections, annual service contracts and lifecycle cost planning. The Manchaca operation carries its own record in GAF's commercial contractor directory. On its own site the company also states affiliations as a Carlisle Pinnacle Contractor, a Johns Manville Peak Advantage Summit Club contractor, a GAF Gold Elite commercial contractor and a CertainTeed Gold Star commercial roofing contractor. The BBB profile for the Manchaca office shows an A+ rating without accreditation, records the entity as started December 2000, and names Joni Vought as general partner.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I wish there was negative rating available to give this company. Please be aware of this company, they are fraud and run scams. They will promise to do work, and then will put one line in the contract that they don't Warranty/guarantee their work. They know what they are doing, and then have collection agency VERICORE (Sam Banner) to collect on their cheap work which they are well aware off. The vice president of the company Steven Macaulay should be sued for running scams. Please do not work with this company, not only they will not do any work but will have audacity to come and collect money for poor job, and then claim they don't warranty their job. My question is then why are they taking jobs that they cannot FIX in the first place.

Extremely unprofessional. Poor behavior and foul language in local businesses while on the job. Please keep an eye on these people if they frequent your establishment. Do not trust them.

Frequently asked

Does Texas licence roofing contractors at state level?
No. There is no Texas state roofing licence, so no roofer in Travis County can be state licensed for roofing. On commercial work the practical checks are current general liability and workers compensation certificates, bonding capacity where the job needs it, manufacturer approvals for the specific system, and any city or county registration and permit rules.
What does the RCAT status on this listing mean?
The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas separates two things. Plain membership means the company pays dues and belongs to the association. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned separately. This listing shows RCAT Member status, which is association membership rather than the earned Licensed credential, and neither is a government licence.
Is this a residential roofing company?
No. Port Roofing presents itself as a commercial roofing and sheet metal contractor working on commercial, government and institutional buildings. Its published services are commercial systems such as single ply, modified bitumen, sheet metal and coatings, plus maintenance programmes, not residential shingle replacement.
Which manufacturer approvals does the company hold?
The Manchaca location appears in GAF's own commercial contractor directory. On its own site the company additionally states it is a Carlisle Pinnacle Contractor, a Johns Manville Peak Advantage Summit Club contractor, a GAF Gold Elite commercial contractor and a CertainTeed Gold Star commercial roofing contractor. Those four are company statements, so ask for current certificates and verify them on each manufacturer's own directory.
What is an NDL warranty and why does it matter on a commercial roof?
A no dollar limit warranty is issued by the membrane manufacturer, not the roofer, and covers the cost of repair without a monetary cap for the stated term on qualifying systems. Only contractors approved at the right tier can offer them. Get the warranty tier, term, exclusions and what triggers registration in writing before the job starts.
How does hail affect commercial roofs in the Austin area?
Central Texas sits in the hail exposed corridor, and hail damages single ply membranes, metal panels and rooftop equipment. On low slope roofs the damage is often not visible from the ground, so a documented post storm inspection with photographs and moisture survey where appropriate is the way to establish a claim.
Do I need a permit for a commercial reroof near Austin?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting and inspection are handled city by city and county by county. A building inside Austin city limits, one in an unincorporated part of Travis County, and one in a neighbouring city can each face different requirements. Confirm with the local authority having jurisdiction and agree in writing who pulls the permit.
Why does a roof maintenance programme matter?
Most commercial roof failures start as small unaddressed details at flashings, penetrations and drains. Port Roofing publishes preventative maintenance programmes, scheduled inspections and annual service contracts. Documented maintenance also tends to be a condition of keeping a manufacturer NDL warranty valid, so check the warranty terms.
How do I verify a commercial roofer's insurance?
Ask for a certificate of insurance issued directly by the agent or carrier showing general liability and workers compensation, with your entity named where the contract requires it. Check that the policy dates cover the whole installation window and that the named insured matches the legal entity on the contract, which here is Port Enterprises, Ltd.
Does this company operate from more than one office?
Yes. Its contact page lists three Texas offices: the Austin area head office at 11303 Conroy Lane in Manchaca, a San Antonio area office at 1166 Pieper Road in New Braunfels, and a Corpus Christi office at 1955 Saratoga Boulevard. Each has its own local telephone number.
