About

Legend Exteriors is a family owned roofing and storm restoration company that has operated out of Ellis County since 2011. Gunnar Holt is listed as president and LLC member on the company's BBB profile, with Julie Holt as managing member and Paxton Holt as manager. The company's name and logo honour Slade Russo, a brother of the founding family who has died. This is the company's home base and its original RCAT registration. The RCAT record gives 1102 FM 813 in Palmer, which is also the operating address of Legend Custom Homes, a separate business Gunnar Holt started after Legend Exteriors. The company's own website labels its contact block the Palmer office and gives 213 South State Highway 342, Suite 205 in Red Oak, a few minutes away and still in Ellis County. BBB records that Red Oak address as the headquarters, with an A plus rating and accreditation since 2018. Work covers residential and commercial roofing. Residential includes free inspections, insurance claim consultations, metal roofs and a lifetime workmanship warranty. Commercial covers metal, TPO, PVC, EPDM and coating systems. The company also promotes its Good Contractors List membership, which it says brings complimentary third party mediation and a $10,000 guarantee on quality.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

We telephoned Jon with Legend Exteriors for a quote on a huge project at my workplace. Prepping and painting over 325 storage doors at Security Self Storage. He headed right over to our Waxahachi location and was eager to help, great attention to detail and knowledgeable with process of job needed. The following day he returned with a few men to walk property and gather more info on our vision for completed job. Pleased to know that the efficiency, eagerness to work, and high quality materials ie; paint is selected from (Sherman Williams) is being provided! Excited to see the before and after!

Over the last 3 years we've had trouble finding contractors that actually do what they say they're gonna do. Gunnar Holt from Legend Exteriors is the best when it comes to customer satisfaction. He bent over backwards to help us out and has done a bang up job putting a new roof on our house and repair to our barns that we're damaged in wind/hail storms. You can trust Legend Exteriors with your construction needs!

Paxton Holt and his project manager Richard McVay with Legend Exteriors LLC did an awesome job on our roof and gutters. They stuck by my husband and I through the entire process, even when the insurance company kept denying claims and were playing hard ball, they came through with incredible results. If you're going through this or you're about to, call these gentlemen. They will do it right the 1st time and give you honest feedback! That in itself was reassuring for me!

Jeremy Lott was fantastic to work with! We had a missing vent cover and needed it replaced. He did a full roof inspection, and even knowing that we have good insurance, did not try to upsell us at all. He provided good information and a quote to replace one vent or all of them with metal ones, as the plastic ones don't hold up well in the Texas heat and storms. We decided to replace them all with metal. The price was very reasonable and the roofer was very meticulous. They ensured the new vents and surrounding shingles matched our roof perfectly. We couldn't be happier! We will definitely use them in the future.

Ronnie. & Paxton were extremely helpful explaining process & moving forward. Start to finish, within 1 week. They took care of all gutters & complete fence restaining. Cannot say enough with our satisfaction & job performance. Roof shingles are way better than previous ones. Absolutely great job! See the roof, gutters, & fence at 319 Choctaw Trl. Mickey

Frequently asked

Is Legend Exteriors licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas does not issue a state roofing licence, so no roofer working in Ellis County holds one. The trust basis here is insurance, association standing and any city or county registration that applies. Ask for a current certificate of insurance before you sign anything.
What does the RCAT listing actually mean?
The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas lists Legend Exteriors as a Member, which means the company pays association dues and appears in the RCAT directory. RCAT separately awards a Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) that is earned through testing and experience. Member and Licensed are not the same thing, and this company is listed as a Member.
Where is Legend Exteriors actually based?
Ellis County. The RCAT record for this registration gives 1102 FM 813 in Palmer, which is also the operating address of Gunnar Holt's Legend Custom Homes. The company's own website labels its contact block the Palmer office and lists 213 South State Highway 342, Suite 205 in Red Oak, which BBB records as the headquarters. Six further RCAT records place the same company in other Texas cities, all added in 2020, two years after this one.
Who runs the company?
Gunnar Holt is listed as president and LLC member on the BBB profile, with Julie Holt as managing member and Paxton Holt as manager. The About page says the company name and logo honour Slade Russo, a brother of the family who has died.
What kind of roofing work does Legend Exteriors do?
The company's site describes itself as a storm restoration company covering residential and commercial property. Residential work includes free inspections, insurance claim consultations and metal roofs. Commercial work covers metal, TPO, PVC, EPDM and coating systems.
Are impact resistant shingles worth it in Ellis County?
Ellis County sits on the southern edge of the North Texas hail belt, and Class 4 impact resistant shingles are rated to take a harder strike than a standard three tab. Many Texas insurers offer a premium credit for a Class 4 roof, so ask your carrier what discount applies before you choose a product.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Palmer or Red Oak?
Texas has no single statewide building code for this, so permitting and inspection rules are set city by city and county by county. Check with the City of Palmer, the City of Red Oak or your Ellis County jurisdiction, and make sure the contract states clearly who pulls the permit and who schedules the inspection.
How should I handle the insurance claim?
The company advertises free inspections and insurance claim consultations. Keep the roles separate, deal with your insurer directly or through a licensed public adjuster, and make the roofer give you a written scope and price that stands on its own rather than a figure tied to whatever the carrier pays.
What should I check before signing with any Texas roofer?
Confirm the RCAT listing and whether it says Member or Licensed, ask for certificates of general liability and workers compensation and call the agent to verify them, confirm the physical business address rather than a suite number, read the BBB profile, and get the workmanship warranty in writing.
What warranty does Legend Exteriors offer?
The website advertises a lifetime workmanship warranty on its roofs, and says its Good Contractors List membership adds complimentary third party mediation and a $10,000 third party guarantee on quality. Ask for the full written terms, including what voids the warranty and whether it transfers if you sell the house.
