About

Legend Exteriors is a family owned roofing and storm restoration company that has operated out of Ellis County, south of Dallas, since 2011. Gunnar Holt is listed as president on the company's BBB profiles, alongside Julie Holt as managing member and Paxton Holt as manager. The company handles residential and commercial work, advertising free inspections, insurance claim consultations, metal roofing and a lifetime workmanship warranty, plus commercial metal, TPO, PVC, EPDM and coating systems. The RCAT directory carries a Houston record for Legend Exteriors at 1001 Texas Avenue, Suite 1400, with a local (832) number, and BBB carries a separate unaccredited Houston profile at the same address. That suite was the Regus Texas Downtown flexible workspace and virtual office centre, which listings show as closed, and virtual office plans are still marketed at the address. The company's own website has no locations page and lists only its Ellis County office. Homeowners in Houston can still reach the company, but the work is run from the Red Oak and Palmer headquarters near Dallas. Ask which crew and which project manager would actually handle a Houston job, and get the answer in writing before signing.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I ABSOLUTELY love my new home! However, for the amount of money that I paid (CASH - $375,000 - NO MORTGAGE) my major appliances are absolutely terrible. I even had one of the appliance company send out a repair representative - thinking that they could help me with the operation, in case I was doing something wrong - and EVEN the manufacturer licensed repair person agreed - stating, “I’m surprised you received these appliances with such a nice home because these are the lowest possible selections. When I first selected the home - the walls had just been installed….so there was still 2 months left for completion. Had I known that the appliances would have been builder grade - I would have gladly paid to upgrade. However, I knew not! I’m so upset! I’m now trying to sell everything (washer / dryer / refrigerator / microwave / dishwasher / and stove ) on Facebook marketplace and anywhere else that I can place my listing - and buy new and more compatible (to my beautiful home) appliances.

Be cautious and careful before deciding to to do business with this organization. They clearly forgot to install proper drainage on my rooftop and now, after only 4 years since I closed, the problem is becoming very apparent. I sent them two emails with photos of the issue worsening and all they do is use an automated reply, "Warranty Expired" and don't even bother to actually write back and offer recommendations and solutions.

Extremely Disappointed with Legend Homes – Poor Construction and No Accountability I’m very disappointed in the experience I’ve had with Legend Homes. When I bought my home, I expected it to be built to basic standards of quality and safety. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case. The finishing on my roof was either improperly installed or completely left unfinished by the builder. Because of this negligence, my home has now developed mold—something that could have been entirely prevented if the roof had been constructed properly in the first place. When I reached out to Legend Homes to report the issue, their only response was that I’m “out of warranty.” That’s it. No accountability, no concern, and no help offered—even though this is clearly a result of poor workmanship, not normal wear and tear. A roof issue that leads to mold is a major structural problem, not a cosmetic one. Now I’m stuck dealing with costly mold remediation and repairs due to their failure to build the home correctly. This has created not only a financial burden but also serious concerns about the safety of my living environment. If you’re considering building or buying a home from Legend Homes, I urge you to do your research and think carefully. They do not appear to stand behind the quality of their work once you’ve closed on the home. I trusted this builder, and now I’m paying the price.

Our home has been awesome and quiet. As of now, only one issue. Turned on the oven to bake Chicken the other day and it through the breaker in the Electrical panel outside while trying to preheat. I didn't notice till 20 minutes later that the entire stove and oven was off. Turned the breaker back on and the oven to preheat then it tripped again. Legend homes warranty department was quick to respond and will have an electrician come out soon to find the problem. Other than that, everything seems OK. We brought in our own inspector before closing earlier this month and he caught most things. So everything seems to be fine other than the oven not staying on. Will definitely need this fixed soon though. Especially since the Holidays are quickly approaching. Everyone needs their oven. That said, so far, we're happy our purchase and are focused on upgrades other than things going wrong with our home. Thats a good thing. Even Luxury $500,000 + homes can have issues. I know because my Cousin bought a home in Cypress, TX. Bridgland. Her home hand a tablet full of problems. Lol. Not funny but. Builders arent 100% perfect all the time . On Jesus. Use your own inspectors and rely on your warranty outside of that. But Thankyou Legend for building a solid home 🏡 ❤️

I was called for a year straight, to give a review on our home, I have waited until it was completed, and we are still not there, however i am hoping this TO DATE review will some how get us heard and a call back. We built a brand new home with Legends/Princeton Classic homes. A Princeton series. The follow is pretty typical if you talk to anyone who has purchased. We were pushed into closing, with a laundry list of items that needed fixing from the roof to the driveway and AC and tons of interior items, with the promise they would all be fixed. it is now 2 and a half years, and with all the warranty items put in, we still have a laundry list. From Jeff the PM, to Steven, the first warranty contact, to now Steve, the warranty manager. We still do not have a place that is completed we call "home". WE DO NOT EVEN HAVE A PHONE NUMBER TO CALL. Try reaching this company. Tell me how may instant voicemails you receive. Zero calls back. My neighbors got lawyers involved and I guess that's the next step. Instead of a company that was already paid, to come fix issues they causes by poor management and choice of trades.

Frequently asked

Is Legend Exteriors licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas does not issue a state roofing licence, so no roofer working in Houston holds one. The trust basis here is insurance, association standing and any city or county registration that applies. Ask for a current certificate of insurance before you sign anything.
What does the RCAT listing actually mean?
The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas lists Legend Exteriors as a Member, which means the company pays association dues and appears in the RCAT directory. RCAT separately awards a Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) that is earned through testing and experience. Member and Licensed are not the same thing, and this company is listed as a Member.
Does Legend Exteriors have a real office in Houston?
The RCAT record gives 1001 Texas Avenue, Suite 1400, Houston. That suite housed the Regus Texas Downtown workspace centre, which listings show as closed, and virtual office plans are still marketed at the address. The company's own website shows no Houston office, so treat this as a registered business address served from the Ellis County headquarters rather than a staffed local branch.
Who runs the company?
Gunnar Holt is listed as president on both the Red Oak and Houston BBB profiles, with Valerie Vasquez named as vice president on the Houston profile, and Julie Holt as managing member and Paxton Holt as manager on the Red Oak profile. Gunnar Holt is the RCAT contact on all seven of the company's Texas registrations.
What kind of roofing work does Legend Exteriors do?
The company's site describes itself as a storm restoration company covering residential and commercial property. Residential work includes free inspections, insurance claim consultations and metal roofs. Commercial work covers metal, TPO, PVC, EPDM and coating systems.
What weather does a Houston roof have to survive?
Harris County roofs face heavy rain, high humidity, tropical wind events and periodic hail. Wind rated shingles and correct deck and edge fastening matter as much as the shingle itself here, so ask what wind rating is being installed and how the eaves and ridge are secured.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Houston?
Texas has no single statewide building code for this, so permitting and inspection rules are set city by city and county by county. Check the City of Houston or your Harris County jurisdiction, and make sure the contract states clearly who pulls the permit and who schedules the inspection.
How should I handle the insurance claim?
The company advertises free inspections and insurance claim consultations. Keep the roles separate, deal with your insurer directly or through a licensed public adjuster, and make the roofer give you a written scope and price that stands on its own rather than a figure tied to whatever the carrier pays.
What should I check before signing with any Texas roofer?
Confirm the RCAT listing and whether it says Member or Licensed, ask for certificates of general liability and workers compensation and call the agent to verify them, confirm the physical business address rather than a suite number, read the BBB profile, and get the workmanship warranty in writing.
What warranty does Legend Exteriors offer?
The website advertises a lifetime workmanship warranty on its roofs, and says its Good Contractors List membership adds complimentary third party mediation and a $10,000 third party guarantee on quality. Ask for the full written terms, including what voids the warranty and whether it transfers if you sell the house.
