About

Hillco Building Service is a Houston based roofing and building restoration contractor. The generic "Building Service" name understates what the company actually leads with: its own website is headlined around roofing, gutters, exterior and interior restoration and painting for residential, commercial, multi-family and military housing across Houston and Dallas. Roofing is a genuine, primary service line rather than a sideline. The company describes over 50 years of combined experience across general contracting, subcontracting, manufacturer representation and building material distribution. Founder and owner Dusty Kent began his roofing career in 1989. Hillco says its operations staff hold installation certifications for all roofing products the company installs plus OSHA 30 construction safety certification, and a sales team member is described as certified by several top shingle, TPO and metal manufacturers for extended warranties. Hillco Building Service LLC also appears in GAF's own contractor directory for Houston. Work is not limited to Texas. Hillco states it holds state certified licenses in Florida and Louisiana and regularly performs work in Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida and North Carolina. Texas itself has no state roofing license, so in Texas the practical trust checks are current insurance, RCAT standing and city or county registration where required. BBB lists the company as not accredited and says it does not have enough information to issue a rating.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

This company went above and beyond to help get my parents a new roof. Anthony did an amazing job and was there every step of the way to help. He was able to answer every question my parents had. It was a quick process. They are now enjoying their new roof that was much needed after unexpected storm damage. 10 out of 10 would recommend to a friend!

Hillco and my contractor (Aaron Hashaw) were great! My estimate and photos for hail damage to the roof were sent over to my insurance company and myself quickly, and the work was done within hours on the day we had scheduled. No hassles and no waiting. Aaron also met with my insurance adjuster to make sure there were no issues with the claim. Highly recommend.

Too pushy and disrespectful. When are you going to remove the sign you drilled into our tree?! You said you would remove it, but it’s still there. So disrespectful…

Hillco Building Service did a great job replacing my roof and repairing my fence. They were time efficient and gave quality, professional service. Aaron Hashaw, my contractor, was awesome. He corresponded with my insurance company in every step and got the claim approved. He made the process so much easier. I will definitely recommend Aaron and Hillco to all my family and friends for their building and restoration services. Thank you Aaron for A+ service!

I couldn't be happier with the service that I received from Hillco! Tim managed the entire process amazing and helped me with filing my insurance claim. The workers were insanely fast and the clean up was very thorough. Definitely the best roofing company in the business. They didn't come door knocking like the other companies because they don't need to. Word of mouth and their service keeps them busy.

Frequently asked

Does Hillco Building Service actually do roofing, or just general building work?
Roofing is a core service line. The company's own site leads with roofing and lists it first among its services, alongside gutters, exterior restoration, interior restoration and painting. It is also listed in GAF's contractor directory as a Houston roofing contractor.
Is Hillco Building Service licensed by the State of Texas?
No, and neither is any other Texas roofer. Texas has no state roofing license. The company does say it holds state certified licenses in Florida and Louisiana, which are separate states with their own licensing systems. In Texas, judge a roofer on insurance, RCAT standing and any city or county registration.
What does the RCAT Member status on this listing mean?
RCAT is the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. Plain membership means the company pays dues and is part of the association. It is not the same thing as RCAT's separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential, which requires passing RCAT's testing. Ask any contractor which of the two they hold.
What insurance should I confirm before hiring a Houston roofer?
Ask for a certificate of general liability insurance and workers compensation coverage, issued directly by the insurance agent to you rather than emailed as a PDF by the salesperson. Check the policy dates cover your project window.
Does Hillco work on apartment complexes and military housing?
Yes. The company specifically describes its work as covering residential, commercial, multi-family and military housing, and highlights government housing and multi-family restoration in its About material.
What areas does Hillco cover?
Houston and Dallas are its two named Texas markets. The company also states it regularly performs work in Oklahoma, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida and North Carolina.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Houston?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting is set city by city and county by county. The City of Houston does require permits for reroofing work in most cases. Ask your contractor in writing who pulls the permit and who schedules the inspection.
Are impact resistant shingles worth it in the Houston area?
Class 4 impact resistant shingles are most often discussed for North and Central Texas hail alley, but hail does reach the Houston region. Many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for a Class 4 roof. Ask your own carrier what discount applies before you pay the upgrade cost.
How should I handle a hail or storm insurance claim on my roof?
Get an independent inspection and a written scope of damage first, then file with your carrier. Under Texas law a contractor cannot act as your public insurance adjuster on the same job they are contracted to perform. Be cautious of anyone offering to cover your deductible.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract in Texas?
Ask for the full scope in writing, the manufacturer and product line being installed, the workmanship warranty length and the manufacturer warranty tier, proof of current insurance, who pulls the permit, and the payment schedule. Do not pay the full amount up front.
