Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

It was time for a new roof and I called coastal roofing and ended up talking to one of the owners. He was nice and friendly, and previous military like me. I liked the price, his guys came on the schedule day, early in the morning and was done by end of day. Luckily I got to test out my new roof because the next 5 days it rained on and off. So I checked the attic for any leakage or dripping or wet spots and there were none. Also they made sure that all the nails were pick up so my dogs wouldn't get hurt. If you need your roof done right please contact coastal roofing.

Frequently asked

Is Coastal Roofing Specialists in Friendswood the same company as Coastal Roofing Specialists in Lumberton?
No. They are two separate businesses with the same name. The Friendswood business is Coastal Roofing Specialists LLC at 700 S Friendswood Dr on (281) 312-9121 at coastalroofingtx.com. The Lumberton business is Coastal Roofing Specialists, Inc. at 1318 Highway 96 South on (409) 751-5454 at coastalroofingspecialists.com. Different entities, different RCAT records, different BBB files, roughly 90 miles apart.
Does WPI-8 windstorm certification apply to my roof in Friendswood?
Yes, it is genuinely relevant here. Friendswood is in Galveston County, one of the 14 first tier coastal counties under the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association. If you carry or want TWIA windstorm coverage, the roof work generally needs to be inspected and documented for a WPI-8 certificate of compliance issued through the Texas Department of Insurance.
Who actually issues the WPI-8 certificate?
The Texas Department of Insurance issues it, based on an inspection by a TDI appointed qualified inspector or by a licensed Texas professional engineer. The roofer does the work to the required standard and supplies documentation, but the roofer does not issue the certificate. Ask before work starts who is arranging the inspection and when.
Is Coastal Roofing Specialists licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas has no state roofing license, so no Texas roofer holds one. What matters instead is current general liability and workers compensation insurance, RCAT standing, and for coastal work the WPI-8 process handled correctly.
What does the RCAT Member status mean?
It means the company belongs to the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. That is distinct from RCAT's separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL). This listing records Member status only.
Which county is Friendswood in?
Friendswood sits across the Galveston and Harris county line. This company's address at 700 S Friendswood Dr is on the Galveston County side, which is why the coastal windstorm rules apply to it.
Are its manufacturer certifications confirmed?
Partly. The company is listed on IKO's own contractor finder for Friendswood and in GAF's residential contractor directory under its Pearland listing. The specific tiers it advertises, GAF Master Elite, IKO Craftsman Premier and TAMKO MasterCraft Pro, are stated by the company and were not independently readable on the manufacturer pages. Ask the company to show current certificates for each.
Does hail matter on the upper Texas coast, or is it all wind?
Both. The Houston and Galveston Bay area takes hurricane and severe thunderstorm wind, but it also gets damaging hail. Impact resistant Class 4 shingles can still earn an insurance discount here, and a wind rated installation matters for the windstorm side.
Do I need a permit for a roof replacement in Friendswood?
Permitting in Texas is handled city by city with no single statewide enforcement body. Roof replacement in the Friendswood city limits goes through the City of Friendswood. For coastal counties the permit and the WPI-8 inspection are separate processes, so make sure both are handled.
What should I ask before signing?
Ask for the insurance certificate sent to you directly by the insurer. Ask who arranges the windstorm inspection and who submits the WPI-8 paperwork. Get the manufacturer warranty and the five year workmanship warranty in writing. Confirm the exact company name on the contract, since another Texas roofer trades under a nearly identical name.
