About

Vogler Sheet Metal is a Houston area roofing and custom sheet metal company that has traded since 1904. Its shop and office are at 1331 Lemm Road 1 in Spring, in Harris County north of Houston. The company's own site describes it as a service company specializing in commercial and residential roofing along with custom sheet metal, and it runs separate service pages for commercial roofing, residential roofing, gutters, metal fabrication and maintenance. Commercial roofing is the larger side of the business, so this is a genuine roofing contractor with an in house metal shop rather than a fabrication only operation. On the commercial side the company lists standing seam metal in Kynar 500 or Hylar 5000 finishes, single ply PVC, TPO and EPDM membranes, modified bitumen with APP or SBS polymers, traditional built up roofs, and coatings used to refurbish older exposed fastener metal roofs. Residential work covers architectural and 3 tab asphalt shingles, concrete and clay tile, natural and synthetic slate, low slope TPO or SBS modified bitumen, and residential standing seam metal panels. The gutter side fabricates seamless and custom profiles (ogee, half round, quarter round, straight face and commercial box) in galvanized, galvalume, aluminum, copper or zinc, and there is a scheduled roof maintenance, cleaning and inspection service aimed at finding leaks before they reach the deck. The business has changed hands several times. The Vogler family ran it from 1904 to 1965, Ken Rawls owned it for roughly the next thirty years, Kenneth Jeanes took over in 1997, Mark Mancino bought an ownership interest in 2008, and the two sold the company to James Kaiser in 2012. The memberships page shows the National Roofing Contractors Association, Associated General Contractors of America, Associated General Contractors of Texas, the Greater Houston Builders Association, the Better Business Bureau and a Builders Club logo, and the company is listed as a Member in the RCAT directory.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Outstanding job on my roof. These guys are top notch and take pride in what they do.

Steve Boozalis· 2 years ago

The job isn't yet complete and I'm giving this company 5 Stars. Our home is 32 years old. We had it built. I maintain most all of the systems myself limited only by my age and physical ability. All appliances and most mechanicals are original having some parts replaced over the years. If I can get commercial grade equipment and parts spec'd, I do it, When it was time for a new roof, our original painting contractor, Ted Brady, recommended Vogler. We are very pleased. Our project site manager, Brandon, has been a great communicator. He has appropriately set and met our expectations while giving me situational awareness throughout. The work crew is one of the best, most professional crews I've seen. There were close to fifteen people on site (including a very capable woman roofer). They were well equipped by Vogler with the tools and materials to do the job right. We are very happy with their work.

We called twice, once on a Friday, and again the next day, to ask for help with a leak in our roof. It's Tuesday, and still no call-back. I understand if people get busy, but, if you have only an answering machine, and say "leave your number", then don't call back within a few business days, I think that's pretty disappointing.

Even though our order was small, it was still important and completed quickly! Wonderful staff! Very knowledgeable and helpful suggestions! Great product! We are very pleased!

Frequently asked

Is Vogler Sheet Metal a roofing contractor or just a metal fabrication shop?
It is genuinely a roofing contractor. Its own site calls it a service company specializing in commercial and residential roofing along with custom sheet metal, and it publishes separate service pages for commercial roofing, residential roofing, gutters, maintenance and metal fabrication. The sheet metal shop supports the roofing work rather than replacing it, and commercial roofing is the larger part of the business.
Does Texas license roofing contractors?
No. Texas has no state roofing licence, so there is no state licence number to look up. The practical checks are current general liability and workers compensation certificates sent to you directly by the insurer or agent, trade credentials such as RCAT status, manufacturer approvals, and whatever registration your city or county requires.
What does RCAT Member mean for this company?
The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas has two separate things. Member means the company belongs to the association and pays dues. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (RRL, CRL or CRRL) is earned separately through experience and testing. Vogler Sheet Metal appears in the RCAT directory as a Member, which is not the same as holding the RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor credential.
Who pulls the roofing permit around Spring and Houston?
Texas has no statewide building code, so permitting and inspection are set city by city and county by county. Spring is largely unincorporated Harris County, and rules differ again inside Houston city limits and in nearby incorporated cities. Ask in writing who files the permit, who schedules any inspection, and whether the permit fee is inside your quoted price.
Is hail a real problem for roofs in the Houston area?
Yes. Hail is the dominant roofing claim story across Texas. The worst of Hail Alley sits further north, but the Houston area still takes damaging hail along with wind driven rain, heavy humidity and long periods of intense sun that age asphalt shingles. Impact resistant Class 4 shingles rated to UL 2218 are one way homeowners reduce hail damage, and many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for them.
What commercial roof systems does Vogler install?
Its commercial roofing page lists standing seam metal panels in mechanical lock and snap lock versions with Kynar 500 or Hylar 5000 finishes, single ply PVC, TPO and EPDM membranes, modified bitumen with APP or SBS polymers, traditional built up roofs, and coating systems used to refurbish older exposed fastener metal roofs.
What residential roofs does it install?
The residential page lists architectural and 3 tab asphalt shingles, concrete and clay tile, natural and synthetic slate, low slope roofs in TPO or SBS modified bitumen, and residential standing seam metal in nail strip, snap lock and mechanical lock profiles. It also installs and repairs seamless gutters in 5 inch and 6 inch half round or ogee styles.
Can the company make custom gutters and metal work?
Yes. It fabricates seamless and custom gutters in ogee (K style), half round, quarter round, straight face, commercial box and bespoke profiles, in galvanized, galvalume, aluminum, copper or zinc, and its fabrication side also works copper, black iron, aluminum and stainless steel for custom pieces.
How do I check a Houston area roofer before signing?
Ask for the general liability and workers compensation certificates to be emailed to you by the insurer or agent rather than handed over by the salesperson. Get a written scope naming the exact system, underlayment, flashing and ventilation. Confirm who obtains the permit. Ask how payment is staged and whether any deposit is required before materials are delivered.
What should I ask about the warranty?
Separate the manufacturer's material warranty from the contractor's workmanship warranty and get the length of each in writing. Ask whether the manufacturer warranty requires a certified installer and a full system of that manufacturer's components, and what maintenance keeps it valid. Vogler's commercial page refers to warranty terms in the 10 to 35 year range depending on the system, so pin down the specific term for your roof.
