About

Storm Guard of South West Austin is an independently owned and operated franchise location of the national Storm Guard Roofing and Construction brand. Storm Guard's own site states that the franchise system "is made up almost exclusively of independently owned and operated franchise locations", so the credentials, history and reviews below belong to this Austin territory specifically and not to the national brand or to any other Storm Guard franchise. The Austin South West territory is run by Jason L. Gibson, listed on BBB as Director of the operating entity JMLG Partners, Inc. and described on the location's Nextdoor page as a Marine Corps veteran. BBB records the business as started on February 1, 2019 and BBB Accredited since August 30, 2019 with an A+ rating. The office address is 2009 Ranch Road 620 North, Suite 810, in the Lakeway area of Austin, Travis County, and the local phone number is (512) 843-0078. Its own web address, austinsw.stormguardrc.com, now redirects to the brand's location page at stormguardrc.com/tx/austin-southwest. CertainTeed's own contractor directory lists this location as a ShingleMaster PREMIER credential holder since 2019 and a SolarMaster since 2024, which is the strongest independently verifiable credential on file for this territory. Services span residential and commercial roofing, roof repair and inspections, insurance claim assistance, skylights, gutters, siding, windows, painting and emergency tarping. Austin is inland, so hail rather than coastal windstorm drives the roofing story here. One of the location's own featured projects describes replacing a hail-damaged Round Rock roof with an impact-resistant shingle system, and Texas insurers commonly discount premiums for Class 4 impact-rated shingles.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0529 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

We found Storm Guard to be an excellent company to work with. Jason was informative and very professional. The bid they gave us for a new metal roof was very competitive. We were especially impressed with the crew that did the work. They showed up on time and worked diligently all day. They were respectful of our property, did an excellent job and removed all debris from the job. We would highly recommend Storm Guard for any roofing needs.

I hired Storm Guard to replace our composite roof after a hail storm that necessitated replacement. Jason was an amazing partner throughout… knowledgeable, professional, and extremely patient with my tortured decision making. Once we decided on metal and the color, the project was smooth and efficient from start to finish. The project was completed per the timeline provided, and his communication was exemplary. He also helped us navigate the insurance side, demystifying that process. His crew was courteous and respectful. Anytime I had questions, Jason would come by in person to walk through and address any concerns promptly. And the photos his crew provided each day were super helpful to see exactly where the project was, as well as provide references for the future. Five star experience start to finish. Highly recommend.

Frequently asked

Is this the national Storm Guard company or a local business?
It is a local business. Storm Guard of South West Austin is an independently owned and operated franchise of the Storm Guard Roofing and Construction brand, operated by JMLG Partners, Inc. under Jason L. Gibson. Reviews, credentials and history from other Storm Guard territories do not apply to this location.
Who owns and runs the Austin South West territory?
BBB lists Mr. Jason L. Gibson as Director of the operating entity, JMLG Partners, Inc. The location's Nextdoor page describes Gibson as a Marine Corps veteran and names David Crawley as production manager.
How long has this Storm Guard location been trading in Austin?
BBB records the business as started on February 1, 2019 and BBB Accredited since August 30, 2019. Any longer experience figure shown on the brand's site refers to the wider Storm Guard system, not to this territory's trading history.
Does Texas licence roofers at state level?
No. Texas has no state roofing licence. What you can check instead is the contractor's insurance, its RCAT standing, city or county registration where required, and manufacturer certifications listed on the manufacturer's own directory.
What does the RCAT Licensed status on this listing mean?
RCAT, the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, offers a separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) that requires testing and experience. That is a higher bar than plain RCAT membership, which only reflects paid dues. This company is recorded as holding the Licensed credential.
How can I independently verify the CertainTeed credential?
Look the company up on CertainTeed's own contractor profile pages at certainteed.com. Storm Guard of South West Austin appears there as a ShingleMaster PREMIER since 2019 and a SolarMaster since 2024. A certification that only appears on a roofer's own website is worth less than one you can find on the manufacturer's directory.
Are Class 4 impact-resistant shingles a good idea around Austin?
They are worth pricing. Central Texas takes regular hail, and a Class 4 shingle passes the UL 2218 steel-ball impact test. Many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for a Class 4 roof, so ask your carrier what the discount is before you commit to a product.
Do I need WPI-8 windstorm certification in Travis County?
No. WPI-8 certification through TWIA applies only to the 14 first-tier Gulf Coast counties. Travis County is inland and outside that programme, so windstorm certification is not part of an Austin area roof replacement.
Who handles permits for a roof replacement in the Austin area?
There is no statewide Texas building code, so requirements are set locally. Rules differ between the City of Austin, Lakeway, Round Rock and unincorporated Travis County. Confirm what your specific address needs and put the permit responsibility in the written contract.
What should I check before signing after a hail storm?
Ask for a current certificate of insurance sent directly by the insurer, a written scope naming the exact shingle line and impact rating, the workmanship warranty in writing, and confirmation of who pulls the permit. Never accept an offer to absorb or waive your insurance deductible, which is not lawful in Texas.
