Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Absolutely thrilled with the experience we had with Proper Roofing! We contracted them to replace the siding on our home, and they exceeded our expectations in every way. Here’s what stood out: • Knowledgeable Team: Their understanding of local codes, especially for our windstorm area, gave us confidence from the start. Proper Roofing designed our siding replacement to meet all requirements, ensuring everything was up to code. • Transformative Results: The transformation of our house is stunning! It not only looks fantastic but the quality of the work is evident. • Accommodating Staff: Every team member was friendly and accommodating. Bryce and Micah were particularly helpful, answering all our questions and coordinating the installation seamlessly. • Attention to Detail: The crew took exceptional care of our property during the installation and left everything clean and tidy. • Final Walk-Through: After completion, Gil conducted a final walk-around to ensure everything met our expectations, which we truly appreciated. Overall, I highly recommend Proper Roofing for any exterior work. If you want quality service and results, look no further! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My dealings with the personal at each stage in the process of purchasing a new roof, gutters, radiant barrier and insulation for my home was a very pleasant experience and seamless in many ways. Salesman Sean was knowledgeable and inspired confidence in the Houston based, family owned company. A walk through allowed us to prepare for the installation. The roofing crew was well staffed and worked diligently to complete the roof in one day, cleanup included. Day 2 involved both gutters, attic radiant barrier and insulation. A lot going on yet again all positions well staffed and everyone knowledgeable about the product with clear communication. A follow up with project manager Jesus to make sure that we were satisfied with the work and a clear explanation of the warranties and that would conclude my very good consumer interaction with Proper Roofing. Quality work with quality products. Recommended!

Super awesome Rep (Mr. Dustin), knows his stuff and kept it professional. Dakota was also an awesome quality assurance guy, knows his stuff well. Both extremely patient, knowledgeable, and good people at heart. The workers, all efficient, they didn’t horse around and got it done super quick. Definitely would recommend for anything roof related.

I have had Proper Roofing come out and install new seamless gutters and a good refresh on my roof. The roof is a little more than 12 years old and was in fair shape but needed some touch ups and help in some places. They ended up replacing pipe boots and inspecting and resealing all of the penetrations in the roof. The technicians even came out for a minor roof emergency and went above and beyond to resolve the issues we were having. I am very pleased with the various sales people, project managers and technicians that came out to do the work. I will definitely have them come back for additional work when needed and the roof replacement when that is needed as well.

We had a great experience with Proper. From Luke in sales (yes even the sales guy was polite and friendly), to the roofing crew, to the follow up with Dakota, everyone was personable and respectful. And best of all, our roof looks great! They do have a job to sell a product, you get the full sales pitch, but there is no pressure. If you know what you are looking for and communicate that, it's a pretty seemless process. Also, they answered all of our questions, had some helpful financing options and listened to what we needed.

Frequently asked

Is Proper Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas does not issue a state roofing licence, so no Houston roofer can be state licensed. The meaningful checks are general liability and workers compensation insurance verified with the insurer, standing with the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, and City of Houston permitting. Proper Roofing & Remodeling is listed as an RCAT Member.
What is the difference between an RCAT Member and an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
They are separate. Membership means the company pays dues to the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned separately through documented experience and testing. This company is listed as a Member, which does not by itself mean it holds the licensed credential.
Does Houston get hail as well as wind?
Yes. Harris County takes hail from spring thunderstorm lines as well as the high winds and wind driven rain of tropical systems. Hail bruising and lifted or creased shingles often cannot be seen from the ground, so an inspection after a named storm or a strong hail event is worth doing before leaks appear.
How long does a roof last in the Houston climate?
Heat, humidity and heavy rain are hard on a Houston roof. A standard three tab shingle often shows its age well before the printed warranty period, while a heavier architectural or impact rated shingle with proper attic ventilation generally holds up better. Ventilation and attic insulation matter as much as the shingle itself, which is why they are usually quoted together.
Are impact resistant shingles worth it in Harris County?
Class 4 is the top rating in the UL 2218 impact test, and many carriers offer a premium discount for a Class 4 roof. Given that Houston sees both hail and high wind, the combination of an impact rating and a high wind rating is usually the more useful pairing. Ask your own insurer what discount applies.
Who issues roofing permits in Houston?
Texas has no statewide residential code enforcement, so it is handled locally. The City of Houston permitting office issues roofing permits inside the city limits, and suburban cities such as Katy, Sugar Land, Tomball and Pearland run their own permit desks. Ask the contractor to pull the permit in its own name.
What else besides roofing does this company do?
Its published scope covers siding, gutters and gutter guards, soffit and fascia, attic insulation and radiant barrier, along with residential and commercial roofing and storm restoration. That means a single contract can cover a roof plus the trim and gutter work that usually gets damaged in the same storm.
How do storm insurance claims work?
You report the date of loss to your carrier, an adjuster inspects, and the carrier issues a scope and estimate based on replacement cost less your deductible. A contractor can attend the adjuster meeting and document damage, but the claim is yours. Texas law prohibits a roofer from paying, rebating or absorbing your deductible.
What should I ask before signing a Houston roofing contract?
Ask for the certificate of insurance sent directly from the agency, a written scope naming the exact shingle and underlayment, allowances for decking replacement and ventilation, the manufacturer warranty tier, a separate written workmanship warranty, the payment schedule, and whether the crew is employed or subcontracted.
How should I handle door to door roofing sales after a storm?
Storms bring a wave of canvassers across Harris County, and this company itself runs a door to door sales model, so expect knocks from several firms. Slow the process down: confirm a fixed local address, check the BBB record, verify insurance with the agency directly, and never sign a contingency agreement or hand over an insurance cheque on the doorstep.
