About

Mesquite Roofing & Construction has been working out of Mesquite, in Dallas County, since 1989. The company is led by Gerald Woods Jr., who its own About page describes as a third generation roofing contractor, and it operates from 701 Highway 352, Suite A. Alongside roofing it does home remodelling, which is why the name carries the construction half. On the roofing side the company covers installation, replacement and repair on both residential and commercial buildings, with a stated focus on leak detection and on storm damage restoration and the insurance claims that follow. The detail work it calls out includes underlayment, valley metal and drip edge. Materials named on its site are asphalt shingle, tile and metal. Related exterior work listed includes gutters, windows, skylights, fascia and soffit, fencing and painting. Its named coverage is Mesquite, Dallas and the wider Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. The company appears on GAF's own contractor directory at the Certified Plus tier, which is one step above entry level GAF certification and is the tier that supports the GAF Silver Pledge warranty the company advertises. It has been a BBB Accredited Business since August 2001 and holds an A+ BBB rating, which is an unusually long accreditation record. It also states that it is a TAMKO MastercraftPro certified contractor and that it was voted Best Roofing Company in Mesquite in the Star Local Media Reader's Choice awards for 2025. Those last two are company statements that we could not confirm at source.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Kevin and Stephanie with Mesquite Roofing and Construction were excellent to work with from start to finish. Kevin, the project manager, offered a fair and transparent price and coordinated the entire job seamlessly. His crew showed up on time, worked efficiently, and were clearly experienced. The team was professional, organized, and moved with purpose—the roof was completed quickly, and the final result looks great. We had an impact-resistant roof installed, which was important for long-term protection and peace of mind. Everything was done as promised. Stephanie worked behind the scenes and made sure all the details were handled properly. She ensured we received all necessary documentation, including warranties and permits for inspection, which made the entire process smooth and stress-free. Overall, the experience was straightforward, professional, and well-managed. If you’re looking for a roofing company that delivers on what they say, communicates clearly, and gets the job done right, Mesquite Roofing and Construction is a solid choice.

Mesquite Roofing replaced my roof in April 2026 and did a great job at a good price. The job was completed in one day, and the crew cleaned up all the debris. They also fixed a gutter downspout and some siding. I highly recommend them!

Recently I hired Mesquite Roofing and Construction to construct new front stairs for my home. They removed the old stairs and custom built new stairs on site. Building material was purchased and the stairs were hand crafted on site which turned out incredible. These guys were friendly, quick, professional, easy to communicate with, and delivered an amazing product. I would personally recommend this company to family and friends. The new stairs looked so good, two local realtors stopped by to ask who built the stairs and I provided the business contact information. By the way, this is the same company who also replaced my roof several years ago. They did an amazing job on my roof. Fast, friendly, competitive and very professional. Give these guys a shot.

I never thought I’d ever leave a review for a roofing company. We had some damage to our roof and called Mesquite Roofing & Construction. They were the third roofing company we called and we couldn’t be more pleased. We had some framing issues that had to be dealt with and the first two companies that came out didn’t offer any solutions to address the problems with our roof. Gerald Woods was able to address our concerns and get our framing corrected and then did an exceptional job on the roof. In the process of reframing , we had the pitch increased. The extra height left the plumbing stacks too short. I spoke with the company (Gerald Woods) and mentioned trying to find a plumber to raise them above the new roof. I was told that he had someone scheduled to handle that the next day. His attention to detail really impressed me. I can’t recommend this company enough. When I need another roof, I’ll definitely call Mesquite Roofing & Construction. I would honestly give them more than 5 stars if allowed. The first pic is before Mesquite Roofing fixed our old house.

Frequently asked

How long has Mesquite Roofing & Construction been trading?
Since 1989. Both the company's About page and its Better Business Bureau record give a start date of 1989, and the About page describes owner Gerald Woods Jr. as a third generation roofing contractor.
Is the company licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas issues no state roofing licence, so no Texas roofer has one. The checks that do mean something are current general liability and workers compensation insurance, any registration the local city requires, and voluntary credentials such as RCAT status, BBB accreditation and manufacturer certification.
What is GAF Certified Plus and why does the tier matter?
GAF Certified Plus is the second tier of GAF's factory certification programme, above GAF Certified and below Master Elite and President's Club. The company is listed at Certified Plus on GAF's own contractor directory. The tier matters because it controls which enhanced GAF warranties the contractor is allowed to offer you.
What does the Silver Pledge warranty actually cover?
The company advertises the GAF Silver Pledge, described on its site as lifetime coverage on the shingles plus ten years on workmanship, and transferable to a new owner. Get the registered warranty certificate in your name after the job, because a warranty that was never registered with the manufacturer is worth very little.
What is the difference between an RCAT Member and an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
An RCAT Member belongs to the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas and pays dues. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned separately through the association's own requirements. They are two different things and are frequently confused in marketing.
Is Mesquite in Texas hail country?
Yes. Mesquite sits inside the North Texas hail belt, one of the most hail exposed metropolitan areas in the country. That drives most of the roof replacement demand in Dallas County. Impact resistant Class 4 shingles are worth pricing here, and many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for them. Confirm the discount with your carrier before paying the upgrade.
Can the company handle my hail claim?
Its site says it assists with storm damage claims. Understand the boundary. In Texas a roofing contractor may not act as your public insurance adjuster or negotiate the claim on your behalf. A roofer can document damage and be present when the adjuster inspects, but the claim itself stays yours.
Do I need a permit to reroof in Mesquite?
Texas has no statewide building code that settles permitting, so requirements are set by each city. The City of Mesquite runs its own permitting and inspection process for reroofing. Confirm the requirement with the city before work starts and put in writing which party is pulling the permit.
What are the opening hours?
The company's website lists Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm, Saturday 10am to 4pm and closed Sunday. Its BBB profile lists a slightly earlier Saturday opening of 8am, so call ahead if a Saturday morning appointment matters.
What should I ask before signing?
Ask for a certificate of insurance sent to you directly by the insurance agent rather than a copy from the salesperson. Then get the written scope, the exact shingle line and colour, the warranty split into material and workmanship, the payment schedule, and confirmation of the GAF certification tier since that determines which manufacturer warranty you can actually be given.
