About

Legacy Roofing and Contracting is a Crowley based roofing contractor operating from 3908 Williamson Road, Suite 120, in southern Tarrant County. It handles roof installation, repair and replacement for homes and commercial buildings, and lists specialty work such as stone-coated steel, metal roofing, pergolas, sun rooms and skylights. The company markets Class 4 impact-resistant roofing directly, which reflects its position in the North Texas hail belt where impact-rated shingles are a common way for homeowners to reduce hail damage and, with many carriers, to earn an insurance premium discount. Its published coverage runs across Tarrant, Johnson, Parker, Dallas and Denton counties. It is a comparatively new business. The Better Business Bureau shows a business start date of October 2023 and accreditation from January 2024 with an A rating, and the RCAT record gives an establishment date of 23 October 2023. Texas issues no state roofing licence, so homeowners should ask for insurer-issued proof of general liability and workers compensation cover, and should confirm the length and terms of the workmanship warranty in writing.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #01-0689 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Legacy is a great and honest company to work with. Charles Johnson was very knowledgeable, professional and kind to guide us through the entire process. This was our first roofing replacement experience and frankly we were dreading the unknown. Charles though, was patient to explain everything in great detail. He also helped us through the entire claim process in dealing with the insurance company which made it a breeze for our part. We were referred to Legacy by a friend and I’ve already referred my sister whom by the way, just got her roof replaced with Charles at Legacy. Charles, thanks again for making the daunting process feel easy and comfortable for us.

Job was done fast (Even our insurance adjuster was surprised the job was completed in just a few days after the estimate was submitted). Clay was great to work with and answered all my questions. Roof looks great and getting compliments from the neighbors til this day.

We had a great experience with Legacy Roofing, and Bree was absolutely awesome. She was responsive, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable throughout the entire process. Bree truly took care of everything, including communicating with our insurance company when needed , which made the whole experience stress-free. We’ve been so impressed that we’ve already recommended her to several friends. Highly recommend Legacy Roofing and working with Bree!

After the windstorm over Mar 4th-5th, 2025, I asked my insurance agent if they knew of reputable roofers. I wanted to determine if I needed to file a claim or pay for repairs out of pocket. Legacy Roofing & Contracting was one cards she sent me. Mr. Schmidt responded to my text message timely and arranged to come out the following day. He assessed the roof and said it was in good shape and only needed minor repairs. I was thrilled to hear that because I was in the process of changing insurance companies. We made arrangements for the repairs the next day because he said he wanted to get it done before the predicted rain (great relief to me). I asked "how much will I owe you?". He said, NOTHING. I'm jovial with him but I'm thinking this is too good to be true. Sure enough he arrives the next morning, makes the repairs, the roof looks great, and I couldn't be happier. Both visits he let me know when he was on the way, when he arrived, and when he left. Chaney Schmidt earned my trust and that's a hard thing to do. I will need a new roof sooner rather than later and Mr. Schmidt will be the ONLY roofer I'll call. If he's booked, I'll wait. I was impressed with his ethical work standards and the quality of his work. I recommend him highly! Child, I'm about to invite him to the cookout.😊

Frequently asked

Is this company licensed by the State of Texas?
No Texas roofer is, because Texas does not issue a state roofing licence. The practical checks are insurer-issued proof of general liability and workers compensation insurance, RCAT status, and any city registration requirement. Ask the insurance agent to email the certificate to you directly.
What does RCAT Licensed mean here?
RCAT is the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. Paying dues makes a company a Member. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is separate and must be earned through testing and continuing education. This company is recorded by RCAT as Licensed.
How long has the company been in business?
It is a newer company. The BBB profile gives a business start date of 20 October 2023 and BBB accreditation from 17 January 2024, and the RCAT record gives an establishment date of 23 October 2023.
What are Class 4 roofing shingles and why does the company promote them?
Class 4 is the top impact rating under the UL 2218 steel ball test. Crowley and the wider Fort Worth area sit in the North Texas hail belt, so impact-rated shingles are a practical upgrade. Many Texas insurers give a premium discount for them, so ask your carrier what discount applies before choosing a product.
What is stone-coated steel roofing?
Stone-coated steel is a metal panel or tile with a bonded stone granule surface, so it gives metal's impact and wind performance with a profile that can imitate shingle, shake or tile. It is heavier on cost than asphalt but typically carries a much longer service life. This company lists it as one of its specialty systems.
Which areas does it serve?
Its own site lists Crowley plus Tarrant, Johnson, Parker, Dallas and Denton counties, which covers most of the Fort Worth and southern Dallas metroplex.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Crowley?
Texas has no statewide building code administration, so permits are set locally. Most Tarrant County cities, Crowley included, require a permit for a full roof replacement and a final inspection. Ask the contractor to confirm in writing that the permit is pulled in its own name.
How should I handle a hail claim on a Texas roof?
Photograph the damage, report it to your insurer promptly because Texas policies impose claim deadlines, and get an independent inspection. Under Texas law a contractor cannot waive, rebate or absorb your insurance deductible, so walk away from anyone offering to do it.
Should I sign a contract before my insurance claim is approved?
Be careful. Some storm contracts are written to bind you to the contractor the moment the claim is approved. Read the cancellation clause, check whether the price is fixed or tied to the insurance scope, and note that Texas gives you a right to cancel certain insurance-related roofing contracts within three days of being told the claim was denied in whole or in part.
What should I ask before signing?
Ask for insurer-issued proof of insurance, a written scope naming the shingle line, underlayment, ventilation and flashing work, who pulls the permit, the deposit and payment schedule, lien waivers on completion, and the exact length and terms of the workmanship warranty. Get a physical address you can visit, not just a phone number.
