About

JGA Roofing Systems is a commercial roofing contractor with its Waco office at 4949 Franklin Ave and a second location at 1420 S Interstate 35 in San Marcos. The company describes itself as second generation and family owned, founded by Jose G. Aviles, and its work is concentrated on low slope commercial roofs rather than residential re-roofs. The service mix reflects that focus: Duro-Last single ply membrane systems, standing seam and other metal roofing, metal retrofit systems that add insulation and encapsulate an aging metal roof in a watertight membrane, roof coatings, roof inspections and health assessments, emergency repairs and scheduled maintenance. Typical clients named on the company's own site and profiles include school districts, government entities, property management companies, restaurants and industrial facilities. JGA Roofing Systems is listed in GAF's own contractor directory for Waco under both the residential and commercial sections, and the company states on its site that it holds GAF GoldElite Commercial Contractor status and installs Duro-Last as a certified contractor. Its BBB file (opened under the San Marcos address) shows the business is not BBB accredited and carries no BBB rating. Central Texas is squarely in hail country, and commercial building owners in McLennan County should expect hail and wind claims to drive a large share of low slope roof work.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Great work and great service! We had a few issues with some other contractors regarding our warehouse repairs, but JGA was awesome all around. They were very communicative, hard working, and timely. Stephanie in the office delivered top notch customer service and Lucio, the project manager, was a pleasure to work with. Would definitely use again!

We had a standing seam metal roof installed on our home. The job was a pretty big one. The crew was professional, courteous and the craftsmanship was outstanding! Definitely recommend

Excellent is an understatement. From beginning to end, customer service and quality of work far exceeded what we were expecting. A rare combination to find today. Our call was returned right away, and JGA even had someone out there measuring our roof the following morning! The owner, Jose, personally gave us a call once he heard our situation due to a pending sale. He not only expedited our estimate but then rearranged his ongoing work to squeeze us into one of his crew's schedules. And what a crew! They arrived as promised, promptly first thing in the morning. They took extra care moving what was possible and draping all remaining items to avoid damaging. When the roofing supplier dropped the ball by arriving hours later than promised and without a mechanical unloader, completing the job that same day seemed impossible. The crew unfazed, created a human assembly line and by hand and up a ladder moved all material from the ground to the roof! Job completed just before sunset, and amazing job with cleanup. Top quality crew work, top quality service. Can't recommend JGA Roofing enough.

Frequently asked

Does Texas issue a state roofing license?
No. Texas has no state roofing licence, so no roofer in Waco or anywhere else in the state can be state licensed for roofing. What you can check is insurance, RCAT status, manufacturer certifications and any city or county registration that applies to the job.
What does RCAT Member mean for JGA Roofing Systems?
RCAT is the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. Member status means the company belongs to the association and pays dues. It is not the same as RCAT's separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL), which requires testing and additional requirements. JGA Roofing Systems is listed as a Member.
Is JGA Roofing Systems BBB accredited?
No. The BBB profile filed under the company's San Marcos address states the business is not BBB accredited and that BBB does not have enough information to issue a rating. Lack of accreditation is not a complaint record, it simply means the company has not joined the BBB programme.
What is a Duro-Last roof and why do commercial buildings in Waco use it?
Duro-Last is a prefabricated PVC single ply membrane. Much of the sheet is welded in the factory, which cuts the number of field seams on a flat roof. It is reflective, which helps with Central Texas summer heat loads, and it can be installed over metal retrofit framing on an aging metal building.
What is a metal retrofit roof?
Instead of tearing off a failing metal roof, insulation is added between and above the existing ribs and the whole surface is encapsulated in a watertight membrane. It keeps the building dry during the work and often costs less than a full replacement, which matters on occupied schools and retail buildings.
Can a roof coating replace a full commercial roof replacement?
Sometimes. Silicone and acrylic coatings can restore and extend a flat roof that is still structurally sound and reasonably dry. If the insulation below is saturated or the deck is compromised, a coating only buries the problem. Ask for a moisture survey or core sample before agreeing to a coating.
How does hail affect commercial roofs in McLennan County?
Central Texas sits in the state's hail belt. On single ply and modified bitumen roofs, hail bruising can fracture the membrane without an obvious leak for months. After a significant storm, get a documented inspection with photos so damage is on record while the claim window is still open.
Do I need a permit for a commercial re-roof in Waco?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting and inspection are set city by city and county by county. Commercial re-roofs generally do require a permit and inspection. Confirm with the City of Waco building services office, or the relevant jurisdiction, before work starts.
Does this company work on WPI-8 or windstorm certified roofs?
WPI-8 certification through the Texas Department of Insurance applies to the 14 first tier coastal counties served by TWIA. Waco and McLennan County are inland, so WPI-8 does not apply here. Inland the relevant concerns are hail rating, wind uplift design and the manufacturer warranty.
What should a commercial building owner ask before signing a roofing contract?
Ask for a current certificate of general liability and workers compensation insurance sent directly by the insurer, the exact manufacturer system and warranty being installed (NDL versus material only), who holds the warranty, the scope for tear off and deck repair, and how change orders for hidden deck damage will be priced.
