About

JC Metal Roofing is a metal roofing specialist based on Galveston Island, operating from 101 Tiki Drive on Tiki Island in Galveston County. The company describes itself as third generation and family owned and operated, established in 1996, and its BBB file records a date of incorporation of 29 July 1996. Its trading footprint runs under several closely related names and domains, including JC Metal Roofing of Texas, JC Roofing and Galveston Metal Roofing. The specialisation is real and unusually deep. The company fabricates standing seam panels and custom trim on site rather than ordering pre formed material, and carries a full range of metal profiles: standing seam vertical panels, stone coated steel that reads as tile, metal shake that mimics cedar, aluminium options, and specialty metal roofing and wall panels. It states it is certified in standing seam and stone coated steel installation. For owners who do not want metal it also installs architectural and designer composite shingles, and its resources page points to GAF, Owens Corning, TAMKO, Fabral, PAC-Clad, Westlake Royal, Tilcor and Tefute product lines. Some of its metal systems carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, which many Texas insurers recognise for a premium credit. Galveston County is one of the 14 first tier coastal counties in the Texas Department of Insurance windstorm program, so most island roofs need a WPI-8 Certificate of Compliance to hold Texas Windstorm Insurance Association wind and hail coverage. The company markets metal as the strongest roofing material and the best performer against high wind, but it does not advertise WPI-8 or TWIA compliant work anywhere on its sites. Windstorm certification capability is therefore not confirmed here, and island owners should raise it directly before signing.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

City/county registration Not checked for GalvestonTexas has no state roofing licence, and city rules differ: some require contractor registration, some run a voluntary registry, some neither. Ask this company and your local permit office.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #01-0566 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

It’s not always easy to find a contractor you can trust, but after you see the results from this company, you can feel confident that you made the right choice. I had a small roof replacement project (about 2 squares), and this company did an excellent job from start to finish. They removed the old roof, installed new underlayment, and replaced it with 24-gauge painted white Galvalume, all for a very fair price. The workmanship really stood out. The panels were installed straight and clean, and the flashing where the metal ties into the existing shingle roof was done correctly not just surface caulked, but properly integrated. They also used the right materials including concealed fasteners which gave me confidence that the roof will hold up for a long time from the coastal climate. I especially want to recognize David for his care and dedication throughout the project. He was attentive, communicated clearly, and made sure everything was done right. You can tell he takes pride in the quality of work and truly looks out for the customer. The crew was professional, efficient, and cleaned up after themselves. They paid attention to the details, which is what really matters on a metal roof. Overall, I’m very happy with the quality of the work and the value. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing metal roofing done right.

David at JC was a Great guy to work with. He was extremely busy, but still tended to my needs on a small project in a timely manner. To keep things moving, I was happy to pick up my special request. David crushed it from there. My only concern was having materials secured at the end of the day, but that wasn't enough to knock David or JC Roofing in Galveston from their deserved top rating.

Fantastic company! They are very professional, knowledgeable, friendly and PROMPT! I called on a Sunday and they were there Monday to assess the situation. They fixed my leak and did a full inspection while there. Very pleased with their work, explaining what needed to be done and being prompt to remedy the situation. I will definitely call on them again and also recommend them to my friends and neighbors. Call out to David for his exceptional dedication to his work!

Frequently asked

Galveston is a first tier coastal county. Do I need a WPI-8 certificate?
Yes, in almost all cases. Galveston County sits inside the Texas Department of Insurance windstorm program covering the 14 first tier coastal counties. If your wind and hail cover comes from the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association, TWIA will not insure the structure without a Certificate of Compliance (Form WPI-8) for the roof and exterior envelope.
Does JC Metal Roofing advertise WPI-8 or windstorm certified work?
No. Its sites market metal as the strongest roofing material with the highest rating against high wind, but nowhere do they mention WPI-8, TWIA or windstorm certification. Windstorm certification capability is not confirmed for this company. If you are on the island and need a certificate, ask about it explicitly before you sign.
Who issues the WPI-8, the roofer or the state?
The state. The roofer builds the roof to the TDI windstorm specification and submits documentation. The Texas Department of Insurance issues the certificate after a TDI appointed windstorm inspector inspects the work in progress, or on the basis of an evaluation by an appointed Texas licensed professional engineer. A roofing company cannot issue its own WPI-8.
Is a metal roof better than shingles in a hurricane zone?
A properly detailed metal roof can perform very well against wind because concealed fastener standing seam systems have no exposed nail heads and use continuous clips. But performance depends entirely on the fastening pattern, clip spacing, edge and eave detailing and the substrate. Wind resistance comes from the installation detail, not from the word metal on the invoice.
What does on site fabrication actually get me?
Panels are roll formed to the exact run length of your roof, which removes end laps on long slopes and lets trim be cut to fit odd island rooflines. Fewer laps means fewer places for wind driven rain to get in. It also means the contractor controls panel length rather than being limited by what ships on a truck.
What is UL 2218 Class 4 and why does it appear on the metal pages?
UL 2218 is the impact resistance standard used for hail. Class 4 is the top rating, meaning the product survived a two inch steel ball dropped twice on the same spot without cracking. Many Texas insurers give a premium credit for Class 4 roofs. Confirm the discount with your carrier before paying an upgrade, because it varies.
Is JC Metal Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas issues no state roofing licence, so no roofer in Texas has one. Check current general liability and workers compensation insurance, the RCAT record, any City of Galveston or Galveston County registration that applies, and the BBB file instead.
What does the RCAT status on this listing mean?
The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas has two separate things that are often confused. Plain membership means a company pays dues. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned separately through testing and experience. This listing shows JC Metal Roofing with the RCAT Licensed credential, the stronger of the two.
Does salt air matter for a metal roof on the island?
Yes. Coastal exposure is hard on coatings and fasteners, and manufacturers often exclude or reduce warranty cover within a set distance of saltwater. Ask which coating system and which metal are being quoted, and ask specifically what the manufacturer warranty says about coastal exposure at your address.
What should I get in writing before a Galveston roof job starts?
Get the panel profile, gauge and coating named on the contract, the fastening and clip detail, who applies for the WPI-8 and when, whether the windstorm inspection is booked before the roof is closed in, the City of Galveston permit responsibility, and a certificate of insurance sent to you directly by the insurer.
