Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0362 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Trace with Gurss Roofing and his team were there when we needed them after the June 2025 storm. Boarding up windows, talking to insurance company, installing new roof, replacing windows, HVAC and other damaged areas of the house. So grateful for their help, kindness and professionalism.

I highly recommend Rollo Gurss for their exceptional work ethic and reliability. They consistently showed up on time and put in the effort to ensure the job was done right. Traces’ attention to detail and commitment to quality are unmatched, making him a true professional who knows how to deliver results. Whether it's a tight deadline or a complex task, he handled it with skill and efficiency. You can trust them to get the job done perfectly every time. Five stars for their outstanding service and dedication!

Rollo Gurrs is the best in Lubbock for a reason, they did my roof in record time and made me feel like an actual human instead of just a number like my last roofer. I definitely recommend these guys if you want a truly local business that has your back!

Darcey Achin· 2 years ago

I wish I could show a picture. My roof leaks after putting on a metal roof and the moisture rotted out the wood under the roof. The underlip of the roof is hanging off and you can see my ceiling from outside.

Frequently asked

Is Rollo Gurss Construction & Roofscapes licensed in Texas?
Texas has no state roofing license, so the meaningful credential is the voluntary one from the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT). Gurss Roofscapes is listed with RCAT as a Licensed Roofing Contractor, a credential earned through examination that goes beyond plain association membership. The company also holds a Lubbock Area Roofing Contractors Association listing with a local commercial and residential roofing license number.
How long has the company been in business?
A long time by any measure. The company website says "Building Lubbock Since 1979," and the BBB profile for Rollo Gurss Companies lists the business as established in 1977 and BBB accredited since 1997, making it one of the longer-running roofing operations in Lubbock.
Does the company do both roofing and general construction?
Yes. Alongside residential and commercial roofing and repair, the company offers residential remodeling, bathroom remodeling, commercial construction, gutters, windows, painting, staining, and fencing.
Does Gurss handle commercial roofing in Lubbock?
Yes. Commercial roofing and repair is a core service, and the company states it has installed some of the largest and most prestigious commercial roof systems in the Lubbock area.
Will the company help with a hail damage insurance claim?
The company offers insurance claims assistance along with leak repairs and roof assessments. Lubbock sits in a hail-prone part of Texas, and if hail damage is confirmed, most homeowners policies cover repair or replacement minus your deductible. Texas law prohibits any contractor from waiving or rebating that deductible.
Are Class 4 impact-resistant shingles worth it in Lubbock?
Often yes. Class 4 shingles carry the highest UL 2218 impact rating and stand up better to the hail that regularly hits the South Plains, and many Texas insurers offer premium discounts for them. Ask the company which impact-rated systems fit your home and budget.
Is Rollo Gurss Construction & Roofscapes BBB accredited?
Yes. The BBB lists the business (as Rollo Gurss Companies) with an A+ rating and continuous accreditation since June 1997.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Lubbock?
Texas has no statewide building code, so permitting is handled city by city. The City of Lubbock has its own rules for reroofing permits and inspections. An established local contractor will know exactly what your address requires and handle any needed permit.
Is the company insured?
The company describes its team as fully insured, and it is listed in this directory on an insurance-verified basis. Even so, the standard advice in Texas applies to every roofer: ask for a current certificate of general liability insurance sent directly from the insurance agent.
What should I ask a Lubbock roofer before signing a contract?
Ask for proof of liability insurance, a written itemized scope of work, warranty terms in writing for both workmanship and materials, local references you can call, and how long they have operated under the same name locally. A company with decades in the same market, like this one, is easy to check with past customers.
