Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I have used Fry Roofing for many years to maintain my barrel tile roof, and they have consistently provided excellent service. When they come out for inspections, they send a detailed report with clear photos of any issues they find, along with a straightforward estimate for recommended repairs. It gives me peace of mind knowing exactly what condition my roof is in and what needs attention. They don’t try to upsell any special programs or packages, no memberships or any of the nonsense that is so prevalent today. Their repair crew is courteous and leaves my property spotless. They’re just good at what they do and I appreciate that.

I recently used Fry Roofing for a full roof replacement on my home, including the roof, attic ventilation, and gutters, and I couldn't be happier. From the initial, thorough inspection to the final cleanup, the entire process was professional and stress-free. The crew was efficient, completing everything on schedule, and the workmanship is top-notch. I highly recommend Fry Roofing to anyone looking for a reliable, high-quality roofer and will definitely use them again

Excellent experience with this company! Our copper chimney rain cap had blown off in a storm, and Fry Roofing was able to come and replace it easily and affordably. I had gotten previous quotes from other companies who told me that I had to replace the entire thing, but Fry Roofing repaired it, and it is now good as new! Honest company, professional, affordable, and great service!

One of their drivers on Halloween in the afternoon nearly rear ended me and then ran me off the road. Definitely one of the scariest moments I have had driving. I definitely wouldn’t trust them with my roof if that’s how they act on the road.

I found Fry Roofing’s name in the builder’s book as the company who put the roof on when my house was built 22 years ago; and I’m so glad I did. I’ve needed tiles replaced that had broken over the years, and I also needed to replace a flat roof section of my house. They are incredibly professional and offer competitive prices, leaving me feeling like I’m paying a fair price for a quality product and installation. I highly recommend contacting Fry for your roofing needs, if you want a quality job done without feeling robbed.

Frequently asked

Is Fry Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas has no state roofing license, so no roofer in Texas can be state licensed. Trust signals here are voluntary: Fry Roofing is an RCAT member, is BBB accredited with an A+ rating, and appears on GAF's contractor directory. Homeowners should still ask for current certificates of liability and workers compensation insurance before signing.
How long has Fry Roofing been in business?
The company states it has served South Texas since 1981, and its BBB profile records the business as started in August 1981, which is over 40 years in San Antonio. It has been BBB accredited since February 2009.
Does Fry Roofing handle both residential and commercial work?
Yes. The company serves homeowners and custom home builders on the residential side and works with commercial contractors, retail chains, hotels, and property management firms on the commercial side, including flat roof systems such as TPO, EPDM, and Duro-Last.
What roof types does Fry Roofing install?
Its long-standing specialty is tile and metal roof systems. It also installs GAF asphalt shingle systems, commercial flat roofing (TPO, EPDM, Duro-Last), and states expertise with DaVinci synthetic roofing products.
What certifications does Fry Roofing hold?
Fry Roofing is listed on GAF's contractor directory as a GAF Certified contractor, which lets it offer GAF's System Plus limited warranty on qualifying systems. It also states it is a Duro-Last Master Contractor, a Tile Roof Institute certified installer, and a member of the DaVinci Roofscapes Masterpiece Contractor program.
Are impact-resistant (Class 4) shingles worth it in San Antonio?
Often yes. Bexar County sees damaging hail, and Class 4 impact-rated shingles resist cracking and granule loss better than standard shingles. Many Texas insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4 roofs, so ask both your roofer and your insurance agent before choosing materials.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in San Antonio?
Texas has no statewide building code for this, so permitting is set city by city. The City of San Antonio and surrounding municipalities each have their own rules, and requirements differ for residential reroofs versus commercial work. Confirm in writing who is responsible for any required permits before work begins.
What is the difference between an RCAT member and an RCAT licensed contractor?
RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) has two distinct statuses. A member pays dues and joins the trade association. A licensed roofing contractor has separately passed RCAT's voluntary licensing program, which tests knowledge and requires proof of insurance. Fry Roofing is listed as an RCAT member.
What areas does Fry Roofing serve?
Greater San Antonio, the Texas Hill Country, and residential and commercial customers throughout South Texas.
What should I confirm before signing a roofing contract in Texas?
Because Texas does not license roofers at the state level, ask for current insurance certificates sent directly from the carrier, a written scope with materials and manufacturer warranty terms, local references from recent jobs, and clarity on who pulls any city permit. Be cautious with any contractor who asks for large payment up front.
