About

WM Roofing is a Lampasas contractor working out of 803 S. Key Ave in the middle of town, in the Hill Country county that shares its name. The company's About page says it was founded in 2008 as WM Metal Roofing by Will McGehee, and that the WM in the name is his initials. The name changed to WM Roofing LLC in 2015 when shingle and flat roofing were added alongside the original metal work. BBB lists the LLC's date of incorporation as 4/26/2006, so the paperwork predates the trading name the company itself dates to 2008. The work splits between residential and commercial, with roof inspections, shingle roof replacement, metal roofing, TPO flat roofing, and historic home roof replacement all named on the company's own pages. Owens Corning's contractor directory lists WM Roofing as a Preferred Contractor at the same 803 S. Key Ave address and the same (512) 564-1110 phone, so that credential is confirmed at the manufacturer's own directory rather than only claimed on the company site. WM Roofing is also BBB Accredited (A+) and has been since 4/28/2016, and its commercial page carries the Central Texas Roofing Contractors Association mark. The service area is genuinely local rather than statewide. The contact page states coverage of Lampasas, Coryell, Williamson, Bell and Burnet counties, and the About page names Lampasas, Kempner, Copperas Cove, Killeen and Harker Heights. That is a realistic drive radius for a small-town Hill Country roofer running one office, and it puts the company squarely in Central Texas hail country rather than on the coast. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

City/county registration Not checked for LampasasTexas has no state roofing licence, and city rules differ: some require contractor registration, some run a voluntary registry, some neither. Ask this company and your local permit office.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #01-0694 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

My father had a roof replaced by WM Roofing a couple years ago and they did a great job. He recommended them to me when I had concerns about my roof’s age. DJ came out to take a look and gave an honest opinion that it was not time to replace it. DJ also made some repairs to another building and did a great job. He is always very professional, knowledgable and prompt with communication. When it is time for me to get a new roof I will only be using WM Roofing.

We had to replace our roof for a combination of factors: age > 15 years, hail damage, and prepping the house for sale. An added issue is that our roof has solar panels. The whole process was smooth from beginning to end. The roofing supervisor was outstanding! Very friendly, courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. The work crew was stellar: efficient, great work quality, and they cleaned up after themselves. The office staff was just as high-quality arranging all the moving pieces necessary to make this very large project happen. What could have been a very stressful situation was not at all! And the end result is beautiful. Very, very, very highly recommend this business!!

Will replaced our roof and repaired a leak at the chimney in 2018. Roof still looks new and no chimney leaks. Last week I have been battling a leak in the hay barn. I asked if Will could take a look at roof and gutters. He agreed and discovered two areas of concern that was outside of his usual work. Will discussed a plan of action and recommended a vender to perform the work. All around great service. Thanks so much.

Frequently asked

Is WM Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
No, and neither is any other Texas roofer. Texas does not issue a state roofing contractor licence. What exists instead is voluntary credentialing through the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, plus insurance and whatever registration the individual city or county requires. Judge a Texas roofer on insurance, RCAT standing, manufacturer credentials and local references rather than on a state licence number, because there is none to check.
What is the difference between an RCAT Member and an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
They are two separate things and they are not interchangeable. Any company can become a Member by joining and paying dues. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (issued as RRL for residential, CRL for commercial, or CRRL for both) is earned separately through testing and experience requirements. A directory that shows only Member status is telling you the company pays dues, not that anyone there has passed the RCAT examination.
What is WM Roofing's RCAT standing?
This directory records WM Roofing as holding RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor status, which is the earned credential rather than plain dues-paying membership. You can confirm current standing yourself by searching the company name in the RCAT member directory at web.rcat.net, which shows the credential type and the individual it is attached to.
Does WM Roofing actually serve my town, or is it a service-area landing page?
The company works from one real address, 803 S. Key Ave in Lampasas, and publishes a defined regional footprint: Lampasas, Coryell, Williamson, Bell and Burnet counties, with Lampasas, Kempner, Copperas Cove, Killeen and Harker Heights named specifically. There is no second office. If you are outside that radius, ask directly before booking rather than assuming coverage.
Lampasas gets hail. Are impact-resistant shingles worth it here?
Central Texas sits in the corridor sometimes called Hail Alley, and Lampasas County takes damaging hail on a regular basis. Class 4 impact-resistant shingles are the top rating under the UL 2218 steel-ball test and stand up better to hailstones than standard three-tab or architectural shingles. Many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for a Class 4 roof. Ask your carrier what the discount is worth before you decide, because it often changes the maths.
How does a hail insurance claim usually work in Lampasas County?
You report the storm date to your carrier, an adjuster inspects, and the carrier issues a scope and estimate. Most Texas policies now pay actual cash value first and release the recoverable depreciation once the work is finished and invoiced. WM Roofing lists insurance claim assistance among its services. Be aware that under Texas law a roofer may not negotiate or adjust your claim on your behalf unless they are a licensed public adjuster, and the same person cannot legally be both your adjuster and your contractor on the same claim.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Lampasas?
Texas has no statewide building code administered from Austin for residential reroofing, so permitting is decided city by city and county by county. Inside Lampasas city limits, check with the City of Lampasas building department. On unincorporated land in Lampasas, Burnet or Coryell County, requirements are usually lighter or absent. Ask your contractor in writing who is pulling the permit and who pays the fee.
What roofing materials does WM Roofing install?
Asphalt shingles, including Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration and Berkshire lines shown on its residential page, standing seam and R-panel metal roofing, and TPO single-ply membrane for low-slope and commercial work. Metal was the company's founding speciality, so it is not an afterthought in the product mix.
What does Owens Corning Preferred Contractor status mean, and is it verified?
Preferred Contractor is the entry tier of Owens Corning's contractor network, above unaffiliated installers and below Platinum Preferred. It requires the company to carry insurance, maintain a satisfactory standing, and stay in good order with the manufacturer, and it unlocks extended system warranties on qualifying installations. We confirmed this listing on Owens Corning's own contractor directory, matched to the company's Lampasas street address and phone number, rather than taking the claim from the company's website.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract in Central Texas?
Ask for a current certificate of insurance sent directly from the insurer or agent, naming general liability and workers' compensation. Ask whether the crew is in-house or subcontracted. Get the workmanship warranty length and the manufacturer warranty tier in writing, separately. Confirm who pulls the permit. Insist the contract is not conditional on your insurance claim being approved for a specific amount, and check the three-day right to cancel that applies to Texas roofing contracts signed at your home after an insurance claim.
