About

United Roofing & Sheetmetal is a family run commercial and residential roofing contractor at 3211 S Texas Avenue in Bryan, serving the Brazos Valley. The company dates its start to 1978 and was incorporated in 1988, which makes it one of the longer established roofing firms in the region. It has been a Better Business Bureau accredited business since 1993 and currently holds an A+ BBB rating. The bulk of the work is commercial. United is a Duro-Last dealer contractor and says it has installed millions of square feet of the Duro-Last prefabricated single-ply system on hospitals, banks, restaurants, schools, churches, manufacturing plants, retail buildings and government facilities. It also fabricates sheet metal in house, installs standing seam and metal shingle and shake profiles, and does metal retrofit work over existing low-slope roofs. On the residential side it installs composition shingles and metal, and it offers free inspections and estimates. Alongside roofing, the company handles insurance claim damage assessment, and is explicit on its own site that it is not affiliated with insurance companies and is not a public adjuster, describing itself instead as an independent damage assessment specialist. It also markets reflective 'cool roof' systems for energy savings, solar-ready roof assemblies, and buys through the TIPS and Choice Partners cooperative purchasing programs, which is how many Texas school districts and public agencies contract roofing work. Within the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas the company is recorded as holding the separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential for commercial and residential roofing, which is a step beyond plain association membership. Texas itself issues no roofing licence, so that credential is an industry designation rather than a government one.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0496 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

We had United Roofing and Sheetmetal put on a new roof today. We were very pleased with the whole process. J. Paul Teel was the sales representative and he did a great job. The crew led by Chato was very professional. He and his crew caught things USAA had not been able to see. They also protected the gardens and areas around the house and cleaned up so well that other than the new roof you wouldn’t know they were here. We have used United before and have always been pleased with their work. If you need a new roof or repairs give them a call.

I do not normally do this, but my roofing experience this week was so phenomenally positive that I have to share that United Roofing and Sheetmetal, Inc. is a solid contender in the roofing world.  The price, customer service, the communications, and quality of work was superior.   I do not know anyone personally, nor have relatives in this company, I am just genuinely so happy to have had such a positive customer/client experience when dealing with such a large home investment.

My husband and I are very pleased to recommend United Roofing, and Silas Moore, for your roofing needs. The presentation was professional and informative. The before pictures were very helpful in making our decision. All agreements, pricing, and warranties were explained up front, and with no hidden fees or changes. The project was completed on time and follow-up inspection, by Silas, was handled the same day.

United Roofing recently replaced the roofs on all 8 buildings at our multi-family property. The job was completed in 7 days, as we requested. The cleanup crew did a fantastic job, and we are very pleased with the outcome of the roofs. Paul Teel did a great job. He communicated with us every step of the way which really made this a smooth-running experience for our management team and the residents.

The crew of United Roofing did an extraordinary job … we can’t belief they removed and replaced our roofing in only two days … we have a large roof! And they were constantly cleaning and picking up trash and nails. Job well done! And J Paul is our favorite!!

Frequently asked

Is this the same company as United Roofing & Sheetmetal in San Benito?
No. Our research indicates the San Benito company in the Rio Grande Valley is a separate business that happens to share the same trade name. It has a different contact person, a different phone number and area code, a different RCAT record and no connection we could verify to the Bryan company. This Bryan company's own website and BBB profile list only Brazos Valley addresses and service areas.
What does the RCAT 'Licensed' status on this company actually mean?
The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas separates two things. Paying dues makes a company a member. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned separately through testing and experience and appears with its own licence number on the RCAT record. This company is recorded with the Commercial & Residential Roofing designation, which is the earned credential rather than plain membership. It is still an industry credential, not a state licence.
Does Texas issue a state roofing licence?
No. Texas has no state roofing licence and no state roofing regulator. That is why the practical checks matter so much here: current general liability and workers compensation insurance verified with the agent, any city registration your municipality requires, voluntary credentials like RCAT, and a written contract naming the exact product being installed.
What is a Duro-Last roof and why do so many commercial buildings in the Brazos Valley use one?
Duro-Last is a prefabricated single-ply PVC membrane system. Much of the seaming is done in the factory rather than on the roof, which reduces the number of field seams, the usual weak point on a flat roof. It is popular on schools, clinics, retail and light industrial buildings where a low-slope roof has to be watertight around a lot of rooftop equipment. This company is a Duro-Last dealer contractor and says it holds Platinum Contractor status.
Do I need impact-resistant Class 4 shingles in Bryan and College Station?
The Brazos Valley sits below the worst of North Texas hail alley but still takes damaging hail. Class 4 impact-resistant shingles are rated to the UL 2218 steel-ball test and many Texas insurers give a premium discount for them. Ask your insurer what discount applies before you decide, because the discount and the extra material cost vary a lot by carrier and by roof size.
Who pays my insurance deductible on a storm claim?
You do. Under Texas Insurance Code Chapter 707 it is illegal for a contractor to pay, waive, rebate or absorb your insurance deductible, or to advertise that it will. If a roofer offers to make the deductible disappear, that is a serious warning sign about how the rest of the job will be handled.
Can my roofer negotiate the claim with my insurance company for me?
There is a line here worth understanding. A contractor can inspect the damage, document it and meet the adjuster on site. Under Texas Insurance Code Section 4102.163 a roofing contractor may not act as a public insurance adjuster on a property where it is also doing or bidding the repair work. This company states on its own site that it is not a public adjuster and describes itself as an independent damage assessment specialist.
Do I need a permit to reroof in Bryan or College Station?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting is decided city by city. Bryan, College Station and the smaller Brazos Valley municipalities each set their own rules, and unincorporated county areas differ again. Confirm in writing which permits and inspections apply to your job and who is responsible for pulling them.
How long should a workmanship warranty run, and how is it different from the manufacturer warranty?
Two separate promises. The manufacturer warranty covers defects in the shingle or membrane and is backed by the manufacturer. The workmanship warranty covers the installation and is only as good as the contractor still being in business. A firm operating since 1978 gives that second warranty more meaning than a company formed last season, but you should still get the length and the exclusions in writing.
What should a Brazos Valley homeowner ask before signing a roofing contract?
Ask for a certificate of insurance sent by the agent, the exact shingle or membrane brand and line being installed, whether the crew is employed or subcontracted, who pulls the permit, the workmanship warranty length in writing, the payment schedule and what happens if the insurance scope changes mid-job. If the contract is contingent on your insurance paying, Texas Business and Commerce Code Section 27.02 gives you the right to cancel within three days of being told the claim was denied in whole or in part.
