About

Roofs by Nicholas is a Permian Basin roofing contractor founded by Dan Nicholas. Its Midland office is at 4400 N Midland Dr, Suite 2870D, and it runs a second office at 301 Paris Ave in Lubbock. The company works on both homes and commercial buildings, covering roof inspections, repair, replacement, new installation and maintenance, plus hail, wind and storm damage work, metal roofing, flat and low slope systems in TPO, EPDM and built up, skylights and solar installation. It appears in the Owens Corning contractor directory as an Owens Corning Roofing Preferred Contractor. Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Roofs by Nicholas is truly the best company to work with. They are honest, the work they do is outstanding and reasonably priced. I typically work with Will Saunders and he is truly knowledgeable and a kind person. You can trust him to do his best and I feel truly lucky to have him check out any issues that we have with our roof! A+ customer service and work!!

These guys do a great job! Will Saunders did an excellent job coordinating our job and making sure everything was completed in a timely manner! We had a very large job that required several different crews and a lot of materials, Will stayed in communication with my husband and me to make sure we knew what to expect every step of the way and helped us navigate the insurance company to make sure everything was covered! The crews were professional and respectful while on our property! Thank y’all for a job well done!

Would love to share my recent experience with Will at Roofs by Nicholas. I was having issues with a few spots on my roof and went through their Google reviews and ended up putting in a request for a quote. I was called promptly the next morning and they sent out will that day to get me a quote on what needed to be done. After he completed his review of my roof, he sent me over a quote with pictures and explanations and called me to go over them. He was very knowledgeable and helpful in helping me understand what needed to be done. Overall an extremely professional and reassuring experience. Their great reviews are definitely deserved!

Frequently asked

Is Roofs by Nicholas licensed in Texas?
Texas does not issue a statewide roofing licence, so no Midland roofer is state licensed for roofing. What can be checked is real: the company is an RCAT Member, has been a BBB Accredited Business since June 1994 with an A+ rating, and appears in the Owens Corning contractor directory. Ask for a current certificate of insurance as well.
Does RCAT Member mean the same as RCAT Licensed?
No. The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas has two separate things. Membership means the company belongs to the association and pays dues. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential is earned separately through RCAT's own requirements. Roofs by Nicholas is listed as a Member.
Is the company an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred contractor?
The Owens Corning contractor directory shows Roofs by Nicholas as an Owens Corning Roofing Preferred Contractor. The company itself states the higher Platinum Preferred level on its own site. Ask the company to show its current Owens Corning status letter if the Platinum tier warranty matters to your project.
How long has Roofs by Nicholas been in business?
BBB records the business start as 1 February 1988, and the company describes more than 38 years serving Midland, Odessa and West Texas. Its BBB accreditation dates back to June 1994.
Where does the company work?
Midland, Odessa, Lubbock, Big Spring and surrounding Permian Basin and West Texas communities. It runs two offices, one in Midland and one in Lubbock.
Are Class 4 impact resistant shingles worth it in Midland and Odessa?
West Texas takes real hail and hard wind, and many Texas insurers give a premium discount for a UL 2218 Class 4 impact resistant roof. Ask your carrier what the discount is worth on your policy first, then ask for the Class 4 option quoted next to a standard shingle so you can compare the payback.
What roof types does the company install?
Asphalt shingle and metal for homes, and flat or low slope commercial systems in TPO, EPDM and built up roofing. It also lists skylight installation and solar installation.
Does it handle hail and storm insurance claims?
The company lists hail damage repair, wind damage repair and storm damage repair among its services and offers 24 hour availability for emergencies. A contractor can document damage and meet your adjuster, but only your insurer decides the claim. In Texas a roofer may not act as your public adjuster on a job it is also bidding.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Midland?
Texas has no statewide residential building code, so permitting is set locally. The City of Midland and Midland County set their own requirements, and Lubbock sets its own. Ask the contractor in writing who pulls the permit and confirm with your city before the tear off.
What should I ask before signing a West Texas roofing contract?
Get the shingle or membrane brand and line in writing, along with underlayment, flashing, ventilation and any decking replacement allowance. Ask what the manufacturer warranty covers versus the workmanship warranty and how long each lasts. Confirm proof of insurance, permits, daily cleanup and how change orders are priced. Avoid large deposits before materials arrive.
