About

Moss Roofing Houston is a roofing contractor based on the northwest side of Houston at 13100 Wortham Center Drive. The company's own site states it has served homeowners and businesses across the greater Houston area since 2015, and public profiles identify Wiley Moss as the owner. Its Better Business Bureau profile shows an A+ rating with BBB accreditation dating to May 2020. The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas directory lists the company as a residential roofing contractor member. The day to day work is roof replacement, roof repair, roof inspections and roofing maintenance, with a free consultation offered before a project starts. CertainTeed's own contractor directory lists the company under the ShingleMaster PREMIER credential, earned in 2019, which is CertainTeed's upper installer tier and is what the company's site refers to as Select Shingle Master. The company also states it is certified under the Karnak Q Applicator program, a coatings credential we were not able to confirm on Karnak's own directory, so treat that one as stated by the company. Despite the Houston in the name, the coverage area runs well past the city limits. The cities served page lists roughly sixty communities and neighborhoods, including Katy, Cypress, Tomball, Spring, Klein, The Woodlands, Sugar Land, Missouri City, Pearland, Richmond, Rosenberg, Fulshear, Brookshire and Friendswood, plus Bryan, College Station and Lake Jackson further out. Harris County sits inland, so hail, wind driven rain and aging shingle systems drive most of the replacement work rather than coastal windstorm requirements.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

We couldn't be happier with the great service and attention we received from Moss Roofing and, specifically, Sean, our representative. He laid out different options for the type of shingles and costs, and was very patient in explaining them. He and another representative came out the day before the replacement to move some pots in our yard and rechecked the temperature of the attic to determine the best option for ventilation. To my surprise, it turned out the old-school wind turbine vents were the best option, and they have made all the difference in the temp of the attic! The next day, the workers were respectful and helpful, and assisted with covering and/or further moving our garden plants and pots and putting them back in place after, and did great work on replacing the roof, very quick. Most importantly, the roof looks great and the price of the replacement was reasonable. A class A act all around!

I want to thank Brian Townson with Moss Roofing Houston for assisting me in getting my roof replaced. Brian took pictures and videos to show me exactly what was damaged on my roof from recent hail. He then explained to me exactly what needed to be done. Our insurance company tried to deny my claim. Brian stated that he would stand with me through the process and help me fight to get my claim honored. Once upon a time a man’s word was his bond. Well I am happy to say that Brian was that man throughout this whole process. Today he sent me pics of my new roof (I am at work). I couldn’t be happier! I must say that it makes our entire house look like a new home. Thank you Brian for helping me fight the insurance company and getting my claim honored. Thank you Moss roofing Houston, our roof looks amazing!

Working with Josh Witt from Moss Roofing was a great experience from start to finish. Josh was very professional, and very knowledgeable of the insurance process. He diligently fought my insurance company through multiple denials and was finally able to get my roof replaced for full replacement. The quality of the roof they did was excellent. Not only that, they upgraded my roof with drip edge to help protect it, and also replaced the uncovered pipes with covered ones without me asking for it! My next door neighbor had their roof replaced 2 years ago, but they didn't get all these extras like I did, so I'm super happy! They had 2 project managers on site, Mike and Jimmy, who were very attentive and knowledgeable. The cleanup was so good it was cleaner than before! I would highly recommend Josh Witt with Moss Roofing to anyone, any day!

We recently had our roof replaced by Moss Roofing Houston, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. They installed high-quality 30-year warranty shingles and even went the extra mile by replacing the shingles on our storage building as well. Mike was fantastic to work with throughout the entire process. He kept us informed every step of the way, answered all of our questions promptly, and made the whole project stress-free. Communication was excellent from start to finish. The roofing crew was professional, efficient, and took pride in their work. The job site was kept neat, and the finished roof looks great. It’s clear that quality workmanship and customer satisfaction are important to this company. If you’re looking for a roofing company that delivers excellent results, communicates well, and stands behind their work, I highly recommend Moss Roofing Houston. Chad & Ashley Green

Highly recommend Brian Townson and Moss Roofing I worked with Brian Townson throughout my entire roofing process and he was absolutely awesome from start to finish. He helped work directly with my insurance company to get the claim approved, coordinated with the adjusters, and kept everything moving without me having to chase anyone down. Brian was extremely detailed and organized, worked with me to align schedules, and did a great job setting expectations up front — no surprises at any point in the process. The planning was solid and communication was excellent. On install day, the crew showed up on time, worked very fast, and completed the entire roof in one day. They did a great job cleaning up not only our property but also our neighbors’ yards, which I really appreciated. Overall, this was a great experience. If you’re looking for someone who knows the insurance process, plans well, and delivers exactly what they say they will, I highly recommend Brian Townson and Moss Roofing.

Frequently asked

Is Moss Roofing Houston licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas does not issue a state roofing licence, so no roofer in Texas can hold one. What you can check instead is insurance, association standing and manufacturer credentials. This company appears in the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas directory as a member, and CertainTeed's own directory lists it at the ShingleMaster PREMIER level.
What is the difference between an RCAT Member and an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
They are two different things. Member means the company pays dues and belongs to the association. Licensed Roofing Contractor (the CRRL, RRL and CRL credentials) is separately earned through testing and experience requirements. Moss Roofing Houston is listed as a member, which is not the same as holding the RCAT Licensed credential.
Does Moss Roofing Houston work outside the City of Houston?
Yes. Its published cities served page lists around sixty communities, including Katy, Cypress, Tomball, Spring, The Woodlands, Sugar Land, Missouri City, Pearland, Richmond, Rosenberg, Fulshear and Friendswood, along with Bryan, College Station and Lake Jackson.
What does the CertainTeed ShingleMaster PREMIER credential actually mean?
It is CertainTeed's upper tier for installers, above the base ShingleMaster level. It requires trained and credentialed installers and lets the contractor offer CertainTeed's extended system warranties. You can confirm any contractor's standing directly on CertainTeed's contractor profile pages rather than taking a website badge at face value.
Should I ask for impact resistant Class 4 shingles in Harris County?
It is worth pricing. Hail is the single biggest driver of roof claims across Texas, and Class 4 impact rated shingles are tested to resist it. Many Texas homeowner policies offer a premium discount for a Class 4 roof, so ask your carrier what the credit is before you decide, and ask the roofer to quote both options.
How do I verify a Houston roofer's insurance before signing?
Ask for a certificate of insurance sent directly from the insurance agent, not a PDF from the contractor, and check that it shows both general liability and workers compensation with current dates. Texas does not require roofers to carry workers compensation, so confirm it rather than assume it.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Houston?
Texas has no statewide building code for this, so permitting is set city by city and county by county. In the City of Houston a residential reroof generally requires a permit, and unincorporated Harris County and the surrounding suburbs each have their own rules. Ask the roofer in writing who is pulling the permit and confirm it with the local building office.
What should I ask a roofer before signing an insurance claim contract?
Ask what happens if the claim is denied or underpaid, whether the contract lets you cancel, and who negotiates with the adjuster. Under Texas law a roofing contractor cannot act as a public adjuster on a claim they are also being paid to repair, so be cautious with anyone who offers to handle the whole claim for you.
How long does a roof replacement take in the Houston area?
A typical single family asphalt shingle replacement is usually a one to two day tear off and install once materials are on site, though scheduling and inspections add time. Summer heat and afternoon thunderstorms are the main things that shift the schedule in Harris County.
What warranty should I expect on a new shingle roof?
You get two separate warranties. The manufacturer covers the materials, and the contractor covers workmanship. Because Moss Roofing Houston holds a CertainTeed ShingleMaster PREMIER credential, ask specifically which CertainTeed extended system warranty it is registering for your roof and get the workmanship term in writing on the contract.
