About

Leatherwood Roofing, which brands itself publicly as Leatherwood Pros Roofing & Construction, is a young Lubbock contractor founded in 2024. The Lubbock Area Roofing Contractors Association directory records the business as established on May 1, 2024, at 10606 Chicago Ave, Lubbock, TX 79424, with Leslie Leatherwood as the contact. The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce member directory lists the same address and phone, which is a useful independent confirmation for a company this new. The scope goes wider than roofing alone. The company's own site lists residential and commercial roofing installation, repair and maintenance, storm damage restoration, gutters, siding and general construction work. It also offers complimentary roof inspections aimed at realtors, insurance agents and homebuyers and sellers, and markets help with insurance claims. Its stated service area is Lubbock plus Plainview, Slaton, Lamesa, Tahoka, Littlefield and Brownfield. On credentials, be precise. The verified affiliations are RCAT membership and membership of LARCA, the Lubbock Area Roofing Contractors Association, whose own directory carries a profile for the company. The GAF, Owens Corning and Malarkey brand logos shown on the company website indicate materials it says it installs, not manufacturer certifications: searches of GAF's and Owens Corning's own contractor directories returned no listing for Leatherwood in Lubbock. No BBB profile was found for this company either, which is not unusual for a business founded in 2024. Founder Leslie Leatherwood is described on the site as bringing around 20 years of industry experience and a background in emergency services, a claim stated by the company.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Leslie was excellent in communicating the repairs we needed for our attic fan replacement. His crew came quickly and got the job done the same day! Would definitely recommend and will use them again in the future!

A friend suggested l look into Leatherwood. He was very happy with their product and service. l got 3 bids and decided immediately. The crew came in early and got down to it. l was pleased they were able to work around my trees and shrubs. l can't even tell there was a trash trailer in my yard! The roof and fascia look fantastic. l will call again in 25 to 30 years.

We had our entire roof redone and couldn’t be happier with the experience. Aaron was amazing to work with — he was genuine, took his time, answered all my questions, and was extremely thorough throughout the process. You could tell he truly cared, not just about the job, but about doing it right. The roof looks great, and the crew did an excellent job. They even went the extra mile by referring us to a trusted company to fix a shattered window from the hailstorm. Huge thanks to Aaron, Leslie, and the whole team — highly recommend.

Frequently asked

Is Leatherwood Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
No, because Texas does not issue a state roofing licence to anyone. The real checks are current general liability and workers compensation insurance, RCAT and LARCA membership, and whatever City of Lubbock permit or registration the specific job needs.
What does RCAT Member mean for this company?
RCAT is the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas and Leatherwood Roofing is listed as a Member, which means dues paying association membership. It is not the same as RCAT's separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL). Member is the status shown for this company.
Is Leatherwood GAF or Owens Corning certified?
Not as far as could be verified. The GAF, Owens Corning and Malarkey logos on the company website indicate materials it says it installs, which is normal, but searches of GAF's and Owens Corning's own contractor directories returned no listing for Leatherwood in Lubbock. If a manufacturer certification matters to you, ask the company to show you its listing on the manufacturer's own site.
How long has Leatherwood been in business?
Since 2024. The LARCA directory records the business as established on May 1, 2024. The founder is described on the company site as having roughly 20 years of industry experience, but that is personal experience stated by the company, not the age of this business. No BBB profile was found for the company at the time of research.
Does it matter that the company is new?
It matters for one specific thing: a workmanship warranty is only as good as the company still being there to honour it. A new company can do excellent work. Ask how long the workmanship warranty runs, get it in writing, and make sure any manufacturer material warranty is registered in your name so it survives independently of the installer.
Why is hail the main roofing concern in Lubbock?
Lubbock sits in the South Plains hail belt and most local roof replacements start as an insurance claim after a hail event rather than as ordinary wear. Hail bruises the asphalt mat and strips protective granules, cutting years off shingle life long before water gets inside. Getting inspected after a significant storm is worthwhile even with no visible damage.
Are Class 4 impact resistant shingles worth the upgrade here?
Frequently yes in Lubbock County. Class 4 shingles are impact tested and survive hail far better than standard products, and most Texas insurers offer a premium discount for a Class 4 roof. Ask your carrier what discount applies before choosing, because that figure decides whether the upgrade pays back.
Do I need a permit to reroof a house in Lubbock?
Texas has no statewide building code covering reroofing, so permitting and inspection rules are set locally. Confirm with the City of Lubbock building inspection department what your job requires, and get it stated in the contract who pulls the permit and who closes it out.
What should I ask before signing anything?
Ask for current insurance certificates sent directly by the insurer or agent rather than handed over as a copy. Get a written scope covering tear off, decking replacement pricing, underlayment, flashing, ventilation and clean up. Confirm the workmanship warranty term, whether crews are employees or subcontractors, and the payment schedule. Never pay the full amount before work begins.
How does the hail insurance claim process work?
You report the damage to your carrier, an adjuster inspects and writes a scope, and the carrier typically pays actual cash value first, releasing recoverable depreciation once the work is finished and invoiced. A contractor may meet the adjuster and point out damage, but in Texas a contractor cannot negotiate or adjust your claim on your behalf unless separately licensed as a public adjuster. Be wary of anyone offering to cover your deductible, which is not legal in Texas.
