About

Fat Matt Roofing is a West Texas roofing company headquartered in Abilene and in business since 2014. Its Odessa office at 2101 N. Grandview Ave., Ste. C serves Odessa, Midland, and the wider Permian Basin, where the company says it has been working since 2017. The Odessa location is a real staffed branch: it has its own BBB profile with an A+ rating, its own Google Business Profile, a dedicated Permian Basin Facebook page, and a Nextdoor page. Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Insurance Required by RCAT Licensed credential (liability and workers’ comp cover are conditions of this credential; ask for the current certificate)
RCAT status Licensed Roofing Contractor Verify ↗credential held by Matt Smith CRRL
City/county registration Not checked for OdessaTexas has no state roofing licence, and city rules differ: some require contractor registration, some run a voluntary registry, some neither. Ask this company and your local permit office.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0355 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I called on 5/9, Ryan came out on 5/10 to look at the leaks I’m having with every rain (about five places now have been leaking into the house) and said he would call me Monday (5/12) with a quote on sealant to patch up the leaks. I never got a call and between then and 5/30 I’ve called three times, twice a lady said she would have someone call me and the third time I left a voicemail. It’s 6/3 and I still have not heard back. Update several years later- never heard a word from them.

Frequently asked

Is the Odessa office a real local office or just a mailing address?
It is a staffed branch at 2101 N. Grandview Ave., Ste. C with its own BBB profile, its own Google Business Profile, and a Permian Basin Facebook page. The company is headquartered in Abilene.
Is Fat Matt Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
No roofer is. Texas has no state roofing license. This Odessa registration holds the RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor credential, a voluntary industry credential, and homeowners should also verify current insurance.
What is the difference between an RCAT Member and an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
A Member simply belongs to the association. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential is separately earned through testing and vetting. This Odessa record carries the Licensed credential.
Does Fat Matt Roofing handle hail damage claims in Odessa?
Yes. Hail damage repair is a core advertised service, and the company says it assists with inspections and damage assessments after Permian Basin hail storms.
Are impact-resistant shingles worth it in Odessa?
Often yes. Class 4 impact-resistant shingles hold up better to West Texas hail, and many Texas insurers offer premium discounts for them. Ask for a quote both ways.
Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Odessa?
Texas has no statewide building code, so permitting is set city by city. Check requirements with the City of Odessa building department before work begins.
Does Fat Matt Roofing offer free inspections?
Yes, the company advertises free roof inspections along with emergency roof repair service.
What manufacturer credentials does the company hold?
It is a GAF Master Elite contractor, which is verified on GAF's contractor directory and allows enhanced GAF warranties. Its website also states CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster status.
What should I verify before signing a roofing contract in Texas?
Ask for a current certificate of insurance, a written scope and price, local references, and a physical local address. Be cautious of anyone demanding full payment up front after a storm.
Where can I read reviews of the Odessa office?
The Odessa location has its own Google Business Profile, a Yelp page, a BBB profile with an A+ rating, and a Nextdoor page, separate from the other Fat Matt offices.
