About
Escandon Roofing, Inc. is a family-owned and operated roofing company that has served El Paso and the surrounding region since 1971, making it one of the longest-running roofing names in far West Texas. Insurance & credential verification
Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Required in El Paso Check the registry ↗Registration is required here to pull a roofing permit; we have not confirmed this company's own status, so check it before you sign.
Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0297 or the company name.
Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Just finished dealing with this company and I have to say, they were great! It was a full reroof due to wind and rain damage, and that meant dealing with an insurance company, multiple inspections, delayed payments, and the entire raft of problems that get in the way. Escandon led us through the various bureaucratic pitfalls that get in the way. They were understanding, helpful and importantly, did a great job.
I recommend this company over other companies with fake AI reviews and bluster. They were awesome to deal with, really good people.

I’ve known this roofing company for years and they have always been dependable, reliable, and extremely efficient. Their work ethic and knowledge really stand out.
Anytime I have questions about roofing, especially here in El Paso with my real estate clients, they’re quick to respond and always take the time to explain things clearly. That means a lot when you’re helping homeowners make important decisions.
They show up, communicate well, and get the job done right. It’s hard to find companies you can truly trust, and this is definitely one of them. Highly recommend.

Unprofessional. Does not take constructive criticism. Easily distracted by kitty cats.

Frequently asked
Is Escandon Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas does not license roofing contractors at the state level, so no Texas roofer has a state license. Escandon Roofing holds the RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor credential, a voluntary designation earned through the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas that is distinct from plain RCAT membership. BBB records also show a City of El Paso contractor registration for the company.
Does El Paso require roofing contractors to register with the city?
Yes. Unlike the state, the City of El Paso licenses and registers contractors through its One Stop Shop development office, and BBB records show a city contractor registration on file for Escandon Roofing. Homeowners can verify a contractor's city registration before signing.
How long has Escandon Roofing been in business?
The company has served El Paso and the surrounding region since 1971, over five decades under the same family ownership. BBB records list Rene Valente Escandon as president.
Does Escandon Roofing work on flat roofs?
Yes. Flat and low-slope roofing is a core service, which matters in El Paso where flat roofs are common. The company installs and repairs TPO, modified bitumen, and built-up systems and applies roof coatings that help reflect the intense desert sun.
Does the company serve New Mexico as well as Texas?
Yes. Service areas include El Paso and nearby Texas communities such as Anthony and Vinton, plus Santa Teresa, Sunland Park, and other parts of southern New Mexico. The company states it is licensed, bonded, and insured in both Texas and New Mexico; note that New Mexico, unlike Texas, does license contractors at the state level.
What should I verify before hiring a roofer in El Paso?
Ask for a certificate of general liability insurance sent directly from the insurer, confirm the contractor's City of El Paso registration, get a written scope with materials and price, and check independent reviews. Be wary of anyone offering to absorb or rebate your insurance deductible, which is illegal in Texas.
Does homeowners insurance cover roof damage in El Paso?
Wind and hail damage is generally covered under standard Texas homeowners policies, subject to your wind/hail deductible. El Paso is not a TWIA coastal county, so no windstorm certificate applies; claims run through your own insurer. Escandon Roofing offers storm damage repair and free inspections that can help document damage for a claim.
Are impact-resistant shingles worth considering in El Paso?
El Paso sees occasional hail, and Class 4 impact-rated shingles can qualify for premium discounts with many Texas insurers. Given the region's heat, homeowners may also weigh reflective shingles or roof coatings; ask the contractor to document the product class on the invoice for your insurer.
Does Escandon Roofing offer free estimates?
Yes, the company advertises free inspections and estimates, and it also offers yearly maintenance inspections to catch problems such as cracked coatings or ponding water before they lead to leaks.
What is the difference between RCAT Member and RCAT Licensed?
RCAT membership means a company pays dues to the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. The RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor credential is separate: applicants must pass an examination and meet experience and insurance requirements. Escandon Roofing is listed with the Licensed credential, the higher of the two.
