About

Strata Roofing & Construction runs its East Texas branch from Suite 107 at 207 East Frank Avenue in downtown Lufkin, a multi tenant professional building that also houses several law and accounting practices. The company publishes this office, and its local Lufkin number (936) 219-4369, on its own contact page, and maintains a dedicated East Texas page on its website. The branch carries its own BBB profile filed at the Lufkin address, accredited since June 2016 with an A+ rating. The parent company was incorporated on 6 August 2008 and is headquartered in Katy, west of Houston. From Lufkin the company covers both residential and commercial work: full roof replacement, new installation, repairs, leak detection, inspections, ventilation and ridge vents, gutter installation, emergency call outs, and help documenting hail and storm damage for insurance claims. Materials run from asphalt and composition shingles through standing seam, R panel and corrugated metal, concrete and clay tile, synthetic and natural slate and wood shake, plus the flat and low slope systems used on commercial buildings (TPO, PVC, EPDM, modified bitumen and built up). Angelina County sits well inland in East Texas, so the local roofing story is hail, wind driven rain and heat aged shingles rather than coastal exposure. Homeowners replacing a roof here often look at Class 4 impact resistant shingles, which many Texas insurers discount. GAF lists the company in its own contractor directory as GAF Certified, which allows System Plus and Silver Pledge warranties on qualifying roof systems. The company additionally states on its site that it is a CertainTeed ShingleMaster and Master Shingle Applicator; that credential could not be confirmed in CertainTeed's own contractor directory.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0214 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

After a tree fell on our house, Chris was incredibly helpful during the frustrating process of getting it repaired. Not only was he able to get our roof taken care of better than what it was before, he was able to put us in contact with others for the additional repairs needed. Highly recommend not only for the excellent work but the fantastic customer service.

It was our first time getting a roof repair job and JD Hill made the experience easy to understand. He helped with the insurance company’s questions and met with the adjuster to go over all repairs. The roof replacement was quick, clean and looks awesome. Would highly recommend JD Hill and his crew with Strata!

JD Hill has worked with me on several different projects and have referred him to several more people. I have been more than pleased and everyone I have sent him to has had nothing but great things to say. Very professional, quick turnaround on get proposals to me and others that I referred him to. Great at communicating and keeping me updated on scheduling. Great workmanship and high quality jobs. He strives for customer satisfaction. I would rate him and his company 10 starts if that was possible.

Chris and his crew are awesome. With Chris's communication from initial inspection, to working with insurance adjuster, to project completion, the entire process went very smoothly. After narrowing shingle choices down to two, he provided addresses of completed projects as examples. It is apparent the crew has worked together for quite some time. They were very careful working around all of the landscaping and the clean up was ongoing throughout the project. The look of the new roof is remarkable. We would highly recommend Chris and Strata Roofing.

Frequently asked

Does Texas license roofing contractors?
No. Texas has no state roofing licence, so nobody roofing in Lufkin is licensed by the state. What you can check instead is current general liability and workers compensation insurance, RCAT standing, and whether the City of Lufkin or Angelina County requires a permit for your job.
What does it mean that this company is an RCAT Member?
The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas has two separate things. Membership means the company joins and pays dues. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned separately through testing and experience requirements. This listing shows RCAT Member status, which is not the same as holding the credential.
Is hail a real risk this far east in Texas?
Yes, though Angelina County sees fewer severe hail days than the North and Central Texas hail belt. East Texas roofs more commonly fail from wind driven rain, falling limbs from the surrounding pine and hardwood, heat ageing and poor attic ventilation. A post storm inspection is still worth booking after any significant hail or wind event.
Are impact resistant shingles worth it in Lufkin?
Class 4 impact resistant shingles are rated to survive a two inch steel ball drop and many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for them. Ask your carrier for the exact discount before you commit, because the payback depends entirely on how much they knock off your annual premium.
Do I need a permit to reroof a house in Lufkin?
Texas has no statewide building code, so permitting is set city by city and county by county. Confirm with the City of Lufkin building department (or Angelina County if you are outside city limits) whether your reroof needs a permit and inspection, and make sure the contractor pulls it in their name, not yours.
What flat roof systems does the company install?
Its website lists TPO, PVC, EPDM, single ply, modified bitumen and built up roofing, which covers the usual commercial and low slope options for shops, warehouses and offices around Lufkin.
Which manufacturer certifications can I verify myself?
GAF publishes its certified contractors on gaf.com, and this company appears there as GAF Certified. The CertainTeed ShingleMaster and Master Shingle Applicator credentials appear on the company's own website but were not found in CertainTeed's public contractor directory, so treat those as stated by the company.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract in East Texas?
Ask for a current certificate of insurance sent directly by the insurer or agent, a written scope naming the exact shingle line and colour, who pulls the permit, the manufacturer warranty tier being registered, the workmanship warranty length, and the payment schedule. Do not pay the full amount up front.
Will the company handle my hail insurance claim?
Its FAQ page says it assists homeowners and business owners with the insurance claims process. Note that in Texas a roofer may not act as your public adjuster or negotiate the claim on your behalf. They can document damage and meet the adjuster on site, but the claim stays between you and your carrier.
How long does a typical roof replacement take?
The company states most residential replacements finish in a few days and minor repairs often in a single day, with the usual caveats around weather, roof size and any decking damage found once the old material comes off.
