About

Parsley's Sheet Metal & Roofing has been roofing the Texas Panhandle out of Pampa since 1947. The company works from 214 East Tyng Avenue in Pampa (Gray County) and describes itself as locally owned and family operated, with a full sheet metal shop on site and skilled workers who are direct employees rather than subcontracted crews. The commercial side covers built-up tar and gravel roofs, single ply systems, metal roofs and work on schools and municipal buildings, plus roof inspections and maintenance programs. Residential work covers composition shingles, wood shingles and custom gutters. The in-house sheet metal shop is the differentiator here, since custom flashing and gutter fabrication is usually jobbed out by smaller contractors. Parsley's has been a BBB Accredited Business since 1997 and holds an A+ rating, with BBB dating the business to June 1947. The company displays the GAF Master Select Installation Excellence Award and an NRCA logo on its own site. Texas issues no state roofing licence, so credibility in the Panhandle rests on insurance, RCAT standing, BBB record and local reputation.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

The employees doing the roof work at Combs Worley Building are doing a great job. They are busy as bees doing the work and each person knows what to do, they're not missing a beat. They're not finished, but it looks great.

Frequently asked

How long has Parsley's been in business?
Since 1947. The company states the founding year on its own site and BBB independently dates the business to June 1947, which puts it near 79 years of continuous operation in Pampa.
Is Parsley's licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas does not issue a state roofing licence, so no Texas roofer has one. The checks that do mean something are current general liability and workers compensation insurance, RCAT standing, the BBB record and any registration the City of Pampa or Gray County requires for the specific job.
What does RCAT Member mean, and is it the same as RCAT Licensed?
No. RCAT Member means the company belongs to the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas and pays dues. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is a separate credential earned through RCAT's own requirements. Parsley's is listed as a Member.
Does Parsley's do residential roofs or only commercial?
Both. The commercial list covers built-up tar and gravel, single ply, metal and municipal and school work. The residential list covers composition shingles, wood shingles and custom gutters.
Why does the sheet metal shop matter on a roofing job?
Flashing at chimneys, valleys, sidewalls and roof-to-wall transitions is where most leaks start, and Panhandle roofs also need durable edge metal against wind. A contractor with its own shop can fabricate those pieces to fit rather than forcing a stock profile, and can match odd gutter sizes.
Should I consider impact-resistant shingles in the Panhandle?
Hail is a real and recurring risk across the Texas Panhandle. Class 4 impact-resistant shingles are rated against the UL 2218 steel ball test, and many Texas carriers offer a premium credit for them. Ask your insurer what credit applies before you pay the upgrade, because the size of the discount varies by carrier.
Is metal a good choice for a Panhandle roof?
Metal handles high wind well and sheds snow, and standing seam has no exposed fasteners to back out over time. It costs more up front than composition shingles and it can dent in severe hail, so ask for the panel gauge and the finish warranty in writing before comparing quotes.
Who pulls the permit for a roof in Pampa?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting and inspection are handled locally. Check with the City of Pampa building office for the current requirement, and make sure the contractor pulls any permit under its own name rather than asking you to pull it as a homeowner.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract?
Ask for a certificate of insurance sent directly by the insurer rather than a copy from the contractor, get the decking replacement price per sheet in writing, confirm what happens to the old material, and separate the manufacturer material warranty from the contractor's own workmanship warranty. Both should be written down with a term.
Do they handle hail insurance claims?
The company offers roof inspections and maintenance programs, which is the normal starting point for documenting storm damage. In Texas a roofer cannot act as your public adjuster or negotiate the claim for you unless separately licensed to do so, so keep the contractor role and the adjuster role separate.
