About

J. Riley Roofing & Gutters is a family run residential roofing and gutter company based at 150 Private Road 4631 in Boyd, Wise County, Texas. Boyd sits where Wise, Denton and Tarrant counties meet, and the company describes itself as serving homeowners across that corner of North Texas and out into the wider Fort Worth side of the metroplex. Its About page states the business was established in 2008 and grew out of a family construction background, with a second generation joining the company in 2018. The work is focused rather than broad. The company installs and replaces residential asphalt and composition shingle roofs, handles repairs, flashing, roof inspections and maintenance, installs attic ventilation, and fabricates custom seamless gutters in house along with gutter guards, gutter repair and gutter cleaning. It is listed as a GAF certified contractor in GAF's own contractor directory, and its site and Houzz profile also show North Texas Roofing Contractors Association involvement. Wise County and the Fort Worth side of the metroplex sit squarely in Texas hail country, so hail claim work and impact resistant shingle options are a normal part of the conversation here. Texas has no state roofing licence, so a homeowner's real checks are the certificate of insurance, the workmanship warranty in writing, and whether the person on the roof holds a genuinely earned credential rather than a bought logo.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #01-0445 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I recently had the pleasure of working with J Riley Roofing, and I couldn’t be more impressed with the entire experience. From the initial consultation to the final cleanup, their team was professional, punctual, and incredibly knowledgeable. They took the time to clearly explain the process, answer all my questions, and provide honest recommendations without any pressure. The crew showed up on time, worked efficiently, and paid great attention to detail. It was obvious they take pride in their craftsmanship. What really stood out was their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. They kept the work area clean, completed the job on schedule, and the final result exceeded my expectations. My roof looks fantastic, and I feel confident it will last for years to come. If you’re looking for a reliable, trustworthy roofing company that delivers top-notch work, I highly recommend J Riley Roofing. I wouldn’t hesitate to use their services again!

Great family owned business. I worked with Jason first to go over the plan of what we needed as far as gutters around 3/4 of our home.. Then on install day I was met by Dasha who was here to oversee that all went well (which it did). Both Jason and Dasha were up front, very informative and responded quickly to my questions and concerns. Sure wish all trades behaved this way. I am also referring them to one of my kids.

I was nervous about finding an honest roofing company, but so glad I found J. Riley. Dasha was so very kind during schedule and answering a few questions I had about the process. Jason was punctual, honest, and informative. He inspected my roof, confirmed he could repair the leak (and install shielding to prevent further leaks in that area), replace a few missing shingles, and quoted me a fair price. He did the work the next business day, just in time for some Spring rain. I’ll be using J. Riley for all my future roofing repairs!

J Riley roofing did a wonderful job Jason was very professional and squeezed us in his busy schedule this week. Was in and out in no time. informed us of another issue that was installed incorrectly by the builder, which would of cost us more damage to our home. great job Jason!!!

Frequently asked

Is J. Riley Roofing the same company as rileyroofing.com?
Yes. The RCAT directory record for J. Riley Roofing in Boyd links to rileyroofing.com, and the address and phone on that site, 150 Private Road 4631, Boyd, TX 76023 and (940) 441-4544, match the RCAT, BBB and Houzz listings. The company brands itself publicly as J. Riley Roofing & Gutters.
Does Texas licence roofing contractors?
No. There is no state roofing licence in Texas, so no company here is state licensed to roof. Trust is built instead on verified general liability and workers compensation insurance, city or county registration where it applies, and voluntary credentials such as RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor designation.
What is the difference between RCAT membership and an RCAT licence?
RCAT membership means a company pays dues to the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. The RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor credential is separate and earned by an individual through examination, and carries the RRL, CRRL or CRL letters after their name. A company can be one without the other, so ask specifically.
What kind of roofs does the company install?
Residential asphalt and composition shingle roofs are the core of the work, along with roof repair, re-roofing, flashing, attic ventilation and roof maintenance. It also fabricates and installs custom seamless gutters, gutter guards, and provides gutter repair and cleaning.
Should I choose impact resistant shingles in Wise County?
Wise County and the western side of the Fort Worth metroplex take regular hail. Class 4 impact resistant shingles, rated under the UL 2218 steel ball test, hold up better to hail bruising than standard shingles, and most Texas insurers offer a premium credit for them. Confirm the exact discount with your own carrier first.
How does a hail claim usually work in North Texas?
You report the storm date to your insurer, an adjuster inspects, and the carrier issues a scope and an actual cash value payment, holding back depreciation until the work is completed and invoiced. A contractor can document damage and meet the adjuster, but it cannot legally adjust the claim on a job it also wants to build.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof around Boyd?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so it depends entirely on the jurisdiction. Boyd, Springtown, Decatur, Fort Worth and unincorporated Wise County each set their own reroof permit and inspection rules. Ask the contractor to confirm the requirement for your address and to pull any permit in the company's own name.
What insurance should I verify before work starts?
Ask for a certificate of insurance emailed directly by the insurance agent, showing general liability limits and whether workers compensation is carried. Texas does not require most private employers to carry workers compensation, so an uninsured crew injured on your roof can become your problem.
How long has the business been operating?
The company's About page and its RCAT record both give 2008 as the year the business was established. Its BBB file lists a business start date of 8 May 2015, which most likely reflects a later entity registration, since the same BBB file shows accreditation running from 2014.
What should I get in writing before signing?
A named shingle product and colour, the underlayment and ventilation specified, the ridge and valley detail, the workmanship warranty length and who honours it, a payment schedule tied to milestones rather than a large upfront deposit, and the manufacturer warranty registration. Ask for the manufacturer certification to be shown on the manufacturer's own website, not on a printed logo.
