About

Hartman Roofing began in San Angelo in May 1988 as a small family business and has grown into one of the largest roofing contractors in West Texas. The San Angelo office at 96 W. 4th St. is the company's original home base, and company president Kirby Hartman, who grew up in nearby Bronte and graduated from Angelo State University, runs it personally. The San Angelo location has been BBB accredited since 1993 and holds an A+ rating. The company roofs an average of 1,200 homes a year across its West Texas offices in San Angelo, Abilene, Amarillo, and Midland, plus Clovis, New Mexico. It keeps permanent crews year-round rather than hiring seasonally, and each location runs its own office and warehouse with in-house sheet metal fabrication for custom flashing. Hartman Roofing installs composition shingles, metal, impact-resistant shingles, stone-coated steel, and cedar shake, and handles commercial roofing as well. Its website displays Owens Corning Platinum Contractor and GAF Master Elite badges alongside BBB and RCAT logos. Hail is the defining roofing risk across its West Texas service area, and the company's motto is "The PROOF is in the ROOF!"

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #02-0265 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Hartman Roofing did an excellent job on my reroofing project. They did a very professional job within the amount allowed by the insurance company quote, and they cleaned up thoroughly after work was in complete. They completed work in a timely manner, and they even helped make a few improvements to help protect my house. I will use Hartman Roofing again!

Daniel Miller with Hartman Roofing is not only a dedicated representative of the company, but also a truly professional, thoughtful, and selfless individual. Closing on my first home has been more challenging than purchasing it, and with a new roof needed right away, Daniel made the entire process far less overwhelming. From the very beginning, he was transparent and thorough, taking the time to walk me through each step. I was never left in the dark about what was happening. His crew arrived early, worked efficiently, and maintained a high level of professionalism throughout the project. When it was discovered that my home needed all new decking and even a rafter replacement, Daniel ensured the work was complete promptly and correctly. During the process, one employee accidentally misstepped and put a foot through my kitchen ceiling—thankfully without injury. Once again, Daniel stepped in immediately, using his local connections to have everything repaired quickly and seamlessly. He consistently went above and beyond what I could have expected, especially as a first-time homeowner navigating a major repair. I would highly recommend Hartman Roofing to anyone dealing with roof damage or even just the suspicion of it. Daniel and his team deliver exceptional service and true peace of mind.

We primarily communicated with Stephen Evers from Hartman Roofing and he was great to work with from start to finish. We had to adjust due to weather and he took care of all the logistics, making the entire process easy and seamless. On the day of the install, the crew showed up on time and didn't leave until the entire job was complete which was amazing to see. We're happy with the installation of the roof and would recommend Hartman Roofing if you're in need of repairs or a replacement.

Jansen and the team at Hartman Roofing did a fast and efficient replacement on our roof after a large hail storm we had last year. They were here within just a few days of getting the approval to replace our roof, and finished it all the same day. I definitely will recommend Hartman Roofing to my friends and family.

Frequently asked

Is Hartman Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
No Texas roofer is, because Texas has no state roofing license. What you can check instead: RCAT affiliation, proof of liability insurance, manufacturer credentials, and BBB history. The San Angelo office has been BBB accredited since 1993 with an A+ rating.
Is San Angelo the headquarters of Hartman Roofing?
Yes. The company began in San Angelo in May 1988, and the 96 W. 4th St. office is its original location. Company president Kirby Hartman runs the San Angelo office, with branch offices in Abilene, Amarillo, Midland, and Clovis, New Mexico.
Who do I contact at the San Angelo office?
Kirby Hartman is the contact for San Angelo. The office is at 96 W. 4th St., San Angelo, TX 76903, phone 325-653-2888, email kirby@hartmanroofing.com. BBB lists hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Does Hartman Roofing install impact-resistant shingles?
Yes, impact-resistant shingles are one of its listed roofing types. In hail-prone West Texas they are worth pricing: Class 4 rated shingles stand up to hail better, and many Texas insurers discount premiums for them. Confirm the exact product class and ask your insurer about the discount.
Does the company handle hail damage roof replacements?
Storm and hail work is central to roofing in the San Angelo area, and Hartman Roofing installs the full range of replacement systems used after hail events, including impact-resistant shingles and stone-coated steel. Get a roof inspection first, then involve your insurer if there is real damage.
Does Hartman Roofing do commercial roofs?
Yes. Commercial roofing is one of its listed roofing types alongside residential composition shingle, metal, stone-coated steel, and cedar shake work.
How big is Hartman Roofing?
The company describes itself as one of the largest roofing contractors in West Texas, roofing an average of 1,200 homes a year across its offices. It keeps permanent crews year-round and can move crews between cities after a major storm.
Do I need a permit to reroof in San Angelo?
Texas has no statewide building code; permitting is set city by city. For work inside San Angelo city limits, check with the City of San Angelo's permits and inspections office, and ask your contractor who pulls the permit before work begins.
What is the difference between an RCAT member and an RCAT licensed contractor?
RCAT, the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, has plain members who join the association, and separately a Licensed Roofing Contractor credential that is earned through testing and vetting. They are not the same thing, so it is fair to ask any roofer which one applies.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract in Texas?
Ask for a current certificate of insurance sent from the insurer, a written scope naming the exact materials, who handles the permit, how the manufacturer warranty is registered, references from recent local jobs, and clear payment terms. Avoid paying large sums before materials arrive.
